"Terry replaced the top course of bricks on our chimney, and repaired a large crack working its way down the side. The bricks in the chimney were uncommon and unique. Terry found replacement bricks that were a great match! Terry conducted himself professionally and performed the work quickly. He cleaned up dust in the the worksite afterwards. His craftsmanship was excellent. I highly recommend Terry."

"Spencer construction repaired the damaged brickwork on my house after a stolen car ran into the house at high speed. The damages occurred around a brick surround for a support pillar and also effected brickwork between two garage doors. Kevin paid attention to ensure that the replacement bricks matched the damaged ones. He also was able to cut appart undamaged bricks so that they could be reused and make the repair look as if the incident had never happenned. He protected the mortar from rain while it was drying. As an experienced 3rd generation mason, he did everything right. He was the best of 6 masons I interviewed. I would not hestitate to recommend him to others. If you're looking for an experienced and creative mason who is attentive to detail he's the best!"

"My 1938 home (purchased in August 2022) was in need of serious repair, especially the brick exterior and chimney. Several other contractors gave estimates that seemed either clueless or predatory. Then came Ekraam - the master technician from Powers. He was kind enough to make the drive from up north to West Seattle on a Saturday when the bridge was still out! One look at my house and he said that any repair to the brick would be worthless in a couple of years. Better to remove it and replace it or put on siding instead. As for the chimney, he asked why I needed it since the house had no fireplace. Briefly stated, he could have sold me a job but instead he informed and counselled me on how to solve it. I ran out of time for repairs so the lovely and amazingly organized Connie - my contact at powers - arranged for Ekraam to remove the chimney on very short notice. The work was very professional, reasonable and appreciated. Honesty and Knowledge are a great combination! Thank You Ekraam, Connie and Powers Chimney & Masonry!!!!"

"I had a concrete patio replaced and added a cement walkway from patio to road. It turned out great, very pleased, I like it a lot. I subsequently had Collin replace the dirt and weeds between patio and road with new turf. It turned out great too. Thank you Collin."

"This was a complex water destroyed corner of the house which included: 1) Structoral rework from crawl space to 1st floor ceiling corner of the front of a high end home. 2) Demo and careful removal of all rotted or damaged wood. 3) Structoral rebuild of plates, hurricane straps, electrical, drywall interior including garage. 4) Complete interior drywall, electrical & custom wainscoting, chair rail & toe kick to match original formal dinning room. 5) Complete rework and matching exterior stone replacement. 6) Exterior wood replacement to match existing structure, facia, and gutter zone rework to stop water leakage. Overall a superb experience. They exceeded expectations in a planned scheduled and met all deadlines within budget and actually saved us about $9000. I would highly recommend them for any job they are willing to provide a proposal or bid."

"The extended new wall solved a slope problem where the tree-like shrubs were leaning over into the neighbor's yard. The appearance of the wall and fence is much improved. The contractor's suggestion to put the previous fence's replacement on top of the wall was also very positive. The new wall and fence are much more attractive and stable than the previous. (A minor point: some of the debris from the previous wall was not removed.)"

"We worked with Ali (sales manager) and Tony (project manager), who took the time to design a project that made sense for our property and our budget, made a number of suggestions and recommendations and were never pushy or tried to "sell" us on something. The crew really went above and beyond to provide top quality workmanship and overall we were in very good hands. Highly recommended!"

"After much frustration in finding someone to inspect and service my woodstove, i had the pleasure of finding Jeremy from Home Stone & Masonry. He came to our home early the morning after we talked, then went for the supplies needed to complete the job...came back and finished that day. Almost an hours drive to get here! He was fast, thorough, clean and communicated with us throughout. We were under time constaints due to selling the house and Jeremy really saved the day! Highly recommend him!"

FAQs for brick or stone tuck pointing projects in Mount Vernon, WA

Masons charge between $70 and $110 per hour. A mason may have a minimum service fee ranging from $80 to $300. Most bricklayers offer free estimates and charge only if you proceed with the project. This clear pricing model assures that professionals inspect your property before beginning work and charge based on your project’s actual requirements.

A professional repointing lasts 20 to 30 years without maintenance and extends up to 50 years when maintained diligently. This process protects your brickwork using high-quality materials that ensure lasting performance and durability. Consistent upkeep preserves its strength and appearance, providing enduring protection and enhancing your home’s overall structural integrity for decades.

You know your house needs repointing when you notice clear signs such as cracked, flaking, or missing mortar and visible discoloration on the brick surfaces. Additional indicators include loose bricks, water damage, and gaps between the brick joints that compromise the overall integrity of the structure. Addressing these issues promptly protects your investment and sustains the durability and curb appeal of your home.

A house needs repointing to preserve both its structural integrity and visual appeal. Mortar acts as a vital bonding agent that holds the bricks securely together. When the mortar deteriorates, it exposes the structure to water infiltration and further decay, increasing the risk of costly repairs. Repointing stops decay and reinforces the exterior, ensuring long-term protection.
