"I had a horrendous paint job done by a local hack who did super on interior but did not know what he was doing when he said he can do exterior, too. It failed in 6 months. So I waited almost five years to write this review to see how it would hold up. So far so great! They did an excellent job of prep which in my case was scraping down to bare cedar clapboards and even indulged my anxiety and primed the 50 year old galvanized nail heads which also got scraped of course. They got me in touch with a contractor who did some wood repair quickly (although I have not had as much luck getting them back to do other stuff, guess Clarke had the magic touch there). Joe did most of the work back then on my house and he was excellent. He stayed on it till it was done, no disappearing acts. I recommended Clarke to a neighbor for interior work and they liked them too."

"Brian was very responsive to my request for a quote and provided that quote promptly. His quote was very competitive and his reviews were excellent, so we selected his company to prep and paint the exterior of our house and attached garage. During the prep, Brian found several necessary repairs, met with our contractor to point them out, and worked around the contractor's schedule and work crew. Due to his experience, he was able to tell us which repairs were critical to prevent further damage and which were cosmetic. His advise was very helpful and consistent with the advise of our contractor. The completed work is beautiful and should protect our house for years to come. Brian was always responsive to telephone or text messages and was pleasant and professional on site. I would highly recommend him to any friend and would definitely use him again."

"Excellently.  He showed up to do the estimate at the time and date he said he would.  He followed up with status when he said he would.  He reconfirmed a few days before starting the work and completed the work within the estimated time and at the estimated price.  His crew and he did an excellent job, and a neighbor requested that Brian do his house as well.  His crew were professional and mature workers.  We plan to use him on another house within our family within the next year or so.

Coleman and Andrew were outstanding to work with. They were very professional and responsive while I was finalizing the claim and scoping the work. They took the time to explain all the materials so I could make a well informed choice. The work began on schedule. The roof itself was done in one day and it looks good. The remaining work required a few weeks. I greatly appreciated that they took the time to do the fascia, soffits, vents, and gutters just right. They did not cover any bad wood and made sure any needed repairs were identified and addressed. All the materials used were of good quality and superior to what was on the house before the work. The work looks great.

The workers were polite and professional. They cleaned up the work space each day and regularly checked-in with me to make sure the work was to my satisfaction. They even made sure my old security lights were working (which they were not before the work started) and installed a new security light fixture as part of the work (I purchased the fixture).

I will definitely work with First Class again for other home improvement needs.

"First I'd just like to say that Alphonse is awesome and I'd use him for as much work as I could feed him.

As a designer/ owner / builder / self GC I've worked with a lot of trades and most of my experiences have been luke warm at best. Alphonse was super responsive and when work was going to be delayed, he was up front and was sure to let me know with some warning. He is very busy and there were some typical delays but in the end when Alphonse said he was going to show up, he and crew were there.

We're building an architectural house with modern clean lines and I'd use Alphonse and crew 10 out of 10 times if I had to do it again.

Bottom line, Keenan Construction is a solid value for solid work.

FAQs for exterior home or structure paint or stain projects in New Portland, ME

Painting vinyl siding is a budget-friendly way to revive curb appeal without paying for new panels. As long as the boards aren’t warped, cracked, or leaking, a coat of high-quality acrylic paint can buy you another five to 10 years before replacement.

Stick to lighter shades so the siding doesn’t soak up excess heat, and prep the surface well for the paint to bond. If you’re seeing rot or moisture damage, skip the paint and plan for new siding instead.

High-quality acrylic paint is recommended for vinyl siding. Acrylic paint adheres firmly to vinyl surfaces and resists peeling and fading, providing a sleek and long-lasting finish. Ensure the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for optimal results. Your exterior painting pro has the expertise to properly prepare your siding’s surface to ensure proper adhesion.

Priming is not required if the vinyl siding remains in good condition and is properly cleaned. However, if the original color is severely faded or the panels have become porous, priming becomes essential. Priming provides a smooth, even base that improves paint adhesion and enhances durability, ensuring the acrylic finish adheres properly and lasts longer.

A paint sprayer is the quickest, most consistent way to coat vinyl siding. The fine mist reaches grooves a roller can miss and lays down an even layer in a fraction of the time. You’ll still need a brush for tight corners, but a sprayer slashes labor hours and reduces lap marks.

If you’re renting equipment, ask the supplier for a tip size made for exterior acrylics so the paint atomizes correctly and sticks to the siding.

Painted vinyl siding lasts between five and 10 years. The durability depends on the quality of the surface preparation and the local climate conditions. When the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepped, and high-quality acrylic paint is used, the finish endures longer. In hotter regions, the lifespan may be closer to five years, while cooler climates help extend it.
