During the job interview/review, Charles described how he would treat certain areas, answering our questions patiently and completely. Charles is a hands-on businessman. He personally managed and worked side by side with his crew. He is very concerned with customer satisfaction. He voluntarily performed additional mud work when he noticed some imperfections that he felt should be addressed in addition to the work agreed upon. When we raised a question about the color of the paint looking different than the sample, he postponed applying it until later that day, when we were satisfied that it was the correct hue. When a large, bulky cabinet needed to be taken off the wall, his team willingly assisted. Charles made certain that the work was done perfectly. When there was an item here or there that needed attention, his attitude was unfailingly positive and he attended to it immediately. "First, even after very detailed instructions about my expectations, 3 in-home visits to clarify all open questions, when the work began suddenly certain work details where not included anymore, and the guy who did the estimate didn't remember what we talked about. For example I requested the leveling of trims before painting since another constructor prior did a bad job. During pre-visits I was absolutely clear about what I want. After the work had began and I requested the promised quality they didn't remember that part anymore. Another major expectation I had was to seal joints on doors with panels. During winter month those joints tend to move due to drying of the wood. I asked if something can be done to fix this issue. It was promised to me that they will use a silicone which will prevent that. During this year first heating saison I can conclude that they either used a cheap or wrong silicon or simply caulk (which wasn't doing the job in the first place). I still have the same issues as before. Crown moulding joints look kind of grumpy too. Later I realized the the quarter rounds in the bathroom were sealed but not painted. The crew was OK, they had to redo a lot, which they did more or less. In summary: a lot was promised, not everything kept, quality is only fair."

This project was done while we were out of state and Cal communicated with us nearly on a daily basis. He didn't hesitate to offer ideas and often had more than one idea for a solution to sticky remodel problems. That said, he respected our input in every way. Cal was a great listener. If he was ever frustrated with his subs or us, we never knew it as he has a very calm disposition. He also has a good sense of humor which made working with him enjoyable. Even though this project took longer than expected due to COVID-19, Cal's attention to detail and high standards never faded. Working on this project from a distance meant that we had to have things shipped and we often had other service providers scheduled at our home when we weren't there. Cal always found a way to get the packages into the condo and made himself or other employees available to open the condo to other service providers.
