"Once again and with the highest confidence, we hired Russell's Contracting to convert our back entrance into a more open, useful mudroom. As promised, they arrived on time on the expected date and started by sealing off the back entrance for dust. The demolition of the closet was first done, and then the rehab began. I was amazed at the level of detail necessary to make the new mudroom perfect. From fixing the ceiling to installing new walls, taping and sanding, painting, new baseboards, and moving the overhead light, it was fun to watch. Colby was professional, exacting, efficient, clean, and asked all the right questions to ensure we were happy with the result. The new mudroom is exactly what we wanted. In addition, we asked Russell's to help us figure out how to make our open staircase to the second floor safer. Keith, Colby, and Max designed and installed a custom-built, stair-to-ceiling railing system that looks great and provides the necessary safety we were looking for. They also made it removable to accommodate large objects up and down stairs. The amount of time they spent was crazy, and the amount of math they did to ensure it was plumb and solid was above and beyond our expectations. My house was built in 1933, and this railing system looks like it could have been original to the house. It is a masterpiece. Dwight M. Herdrich, AIA Architect is a multi-disciplinary design firm with over 25 years experience in Architecture, Site Planning, Interior Design, Acoustic Design, Graphic Design, Kitchen Cabinetry and Furniture Design. Projects completed over the years include everything from small home additions, to 100,000 square foot Worship Centers, and many varieties in between. A native of Michigan, Dwight moved to Maine in 1993 following a few years in San Diego, California, where he moved upon completion of his Masters of Architecture at the University of Michigan. After working for a few mid-sized architectural firms in Portland, Maine, Dwight joined Houses & Barns by John Libby in 1998, designing many of the beautiful homes that they have built. After an extended hiatus of pursuing projects on his own in Sarasota, Florida, Dwight returned to Maine in 2011, and continued his passion for innovating the New England vernacular, basing his firm in the Portland, Maine region.
