I filled out a request on Angi’s almost immediately I heard from Wilfer with Pro Trees who I made an appointment with. He came gave me a reasonable price so I hired the company and scheduled the day & time. They came on time, did a great job on my tree which could have looked oddly uneven, yet didn’t because they definitely knew what they were doing. I would hire them again and recommend them to family and friends. "

"Received 5 quotes for this big, expensive job. JL was not the cheapest, nor were they most expensive. I had used them previously and was overall pleased with their work, so I decided to use them again. I was not disappointed. The crew showed up on time and systematically took down the tree in less than a full day. I was impressed. Nothing on the property was damaged and this was a feat in itself as the tree removal was in the back yard and on a hill. The JL Team had to remove all of the tree limbs, cut the tree trunk into discs, split the discs, and then HAND CARRY out each piece of the tree trunk - down a slope with rocks and multiple stairs. Clean up was perfect - no complaints. The foreman on the job did a great job and was able to make a few minor adjustments on the fly for my pruning requests. They even stacked up a small amount of wood that I wanted to keep for firewood. Would recommend."

"Fabulous experience! could not have gone better. Communication spot on. Arrived promptly for estimate and emailed it immediately. they charge $600 and had other estimates for $900, $100 and $1400 for same job! sent out Miss utility and once that was complete they were ready to c ome out the next day. they had to push is to one day later due to an unexpectedly long job but they came the next day as promised. They communicated with me by phone, email and text to let me know off the schedules and any chances. Did the work with a team of 5 and large, well-kept machines. removed the stump and removed all the debris and place was in perfect condition (minus our dead tree) when they left. final payment request came in promptly and was easy to pay online. I would hire them again without any hesitation. VERY happy with the company."

"Awesome end-to-end experience! After two other tree service arborists inspected trees with me but then failed to actually send estimates, I searched Angie's List and read many of Gordon's reviews. I left him a voicemail on a Friday. He called me Saturday and was willing to visit that weekend. Since I was busy over the weekend, he agreed to call Monday or Tuesday. He called Tuesday at approx. 11am, indicating he was in the area working a job and could be by in 30 minutes. I agreed to meet him. We inspected my four large shade trees (2 sycamore and 2 maples) and I explained we needed better visibility from front porch, unblock view of a corner stop sign, and ensure no growth into siding. He explained his additional recommendation for overall thinning and shaping. He provided an on the spot verbal estimate of $800 and when I asked if he accepted a credit card, he indicated yes, but would charge only $750 if I wrote a check. I had researched average job costs and Gordon's quote was very reasonable. I then asked what his lead time was and he indicated his crew was finishing a job nearby and they could be by in an hour after they ate lunch. He and his crew arrived promptly an hour later, a crew of six total, including Gordon. Gordon rang the doorbell and asked me to review first tree trimming with him before he moved on to remaining three to ensure it met my expectations per our earlier discussion. After finishing, Gordon asked me to walk our property and review pruning for all four trees. His crew was well organized, worked together like clockwork, and Gordon was right there with them working and directing to ensure all trees were pruned to expectations and clean-up was thorough. Our yard looks "larger" now and is very open with the thinning Gordon recommended, as they removed overlapping and dead branches to include providing more ground clearance. They look great and Gordon indicated they shouldn't require pruning again for at least five years. I'll now hire Gordon for annual tree / shrub maintenance (fertilize, insects, disease prevention) and fire the other provider that had provided that service but failed to provide a pruning estimate. I strongly recommend Gordon and his team for any tree related care! Well done!"

"They did a fantastic job on trimming 2 trees and 3 bushes, removing another set of trees, bushes and stumps, then doing additional landscaping work around the house. They worked quickly and always checked to insure the work was done to my satisfaction."

"They took down a dying ash for me and did a good job. There are a few big reasons I'm giving them a bad review. First, despite my specifically asking if a tree removal permit was required, they said no. They know better - I found out afterwards that a permit is required. I could have been fined a serious amount of $$$. They also recommended trimming my huge elm tree in July, but lucky for me two other tree companies told me that elms can only be trimmed in winter when they are dormant. Trimming elms when they have leaves risks Dutch Elm disease. Shifflett has been in business for a long time - surely they know better about all of the above. Really disappointed. In DC, both you as the homeowner and the tree service can get slapped with hefty fines (like $10K and up) for failing to apply for a permit to remove a tree. For a dead or dying tree, the permits are free. Adirondack Tree not only told me I had to get a permit, they also applied and got it for me. It took about 2 days. People may not know that in DC and other areas like Takoma Park, MD, you need a permit to remove trees, but a professional tree service should know and follow this law, it's there for a good reason. See ddot.dc.gov/page/tree-re… Beyond that, Shifflett's estimate that was way more than those from two other tree companies. I'm just lucky that I got other estimates - otherwise I would have paid far more, risked being fined for not having the required permit, and my elm tree could have gotten Dutch Elm disease due to Shifflet's negligence."

"I called for an estimate and the company sent a rep. He was very friendly and promised to send me a quote. Had to text back the email since their online system did not have it. That was it. Never heard back even after following up two times. Because of this I will not recommend. If you have a huge job, go risk working with the company. If you have a branch or small tree like mine, good luck getting even an estimate from this company. Totally unprofessional. Look at website, it should have been a sign. Verbose, mind 90s feel."
