"Shield did a great job repairing a section of my roof and siding. We ran into issues with the siding not being delivered on time. I’m pretty sure one of the guys drove out of town to pick it up the next day! I was extremely impressed. They did a great job to get it done quickly and took extra measure to make sure it is done right. I really appreciate all your help. Thank you guys!"

"Mr. Messinger was very knowledgable and possessed a sense of urgency when it came to our roof repair.  Having just experienced 2 very bad snow storms and heavy rains in the forecast, Mr. Messinger made our repairs a priority.  He assessed the damage and did the repairs all in the same day.  My father stopped by to inspect the work, and was so pleased that he will be using him in the near future to install a new roof of his home.   <br />     He also pointed out short cuts others had taken and things to look out for in the future.  I really appreciated how he put things into laymans terms and explained everything thoroughly.  <br /> <br /> <br />"

"They did what I wanted them to do.  They added to the length of the ice dam over my heat pump as I requested during construction. <br /> They cleaned up and left nothing behind.  I never heard a foul word from any of the workers. .The work was delayed a few days by weather.  This was unavoidable.  I understand a wet metal roof is very unsafe to be on. <br />"

"We had a newly installed skylight which had begun to leak as well as another leak on a different flat rubber roof which had started allowing water to run down inside of a picture window.  The original skylight installing company did not return our calls for over two weeks, so we contacted Don's Roofing for his estimates to the two roofs.  Don returned our call the same day and arranged to view the problem areas the next day. <br /> <br /> Strangely enough, the original installing company appeared the following morning and stated that the skylight leak was due to the failure of the seams of the rubber roof right above the skylight, and repairs were estimated to be $300.  They also checked the leaking window area of another flat rubber roof and stated it would take over $2000 to try to repair it, but a new roof was needed badly and said the roof should be leaking very badly all over. <br /> <br /> Don arrived shortly after they left and first checked our skylight.  He showed us that the flap along the top of the skylight was never sealed down, and he immediately sealed it down.  He checked the other flat rubber roof with the leaking window area and stated that resealing the rubber roofing was needed and he could do the work the following week, all for a total of less than $700. <br /> <br /> The following week Don arrived early in the morning and completed resealing the seams and the perimeter of the other flat room and was gone within two hours.  The work was done neatly, cleanly, and very professionally. <br /> <br /> We highly recommend Don's Roofing."

"I contacted provider at the end of one week, and he was able to come out the next week, look at the roof, and give me an estimate. I thought the estimate was very reasonable and asked him to go ahead. He performed the work the next week. <br /> It ended up being a little more expensive than the estimate, because my roof had two layers of sheeting. When the provider pointed out the extra layer, I remembered that the previous homeowner had told me that when I was originally looking at the house -- I just didn't recall it and so didn't mention it to the provider when he was preparing his estimate. <br /> I hasn't rained since the repairs, but the provider told me to call if there were any issues and he would return. <br /> I found the provider to be professional, prompt, and was able to communicate well what needed to be done. <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Ona, WV

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
