"It went just as he said it would. They started on a Tuesday with a subcontractor doing the tear-off, then his crew got the new roof on in just a few days. He had another subcontractor install gutters the next week, and it took a couple more weeks of short-term work. Jim inspected the gutters and called the sub crew back in to finish things to Jim's satisfaction, then the County inspector found a couple more things. All in all it took a month, but the actual work took about a week. We got 4 bids, all from top-rated Angie's List contractors, and Jim's was the lowest by a few hundred dollars. We have no regrets with that decision. The bonus was that someone earlier on his schedule cancelled, so rather than having the work done in October or November, he did it in August. We are very happy with the whole process."

"When I could no longer ignore that my house was overdue for a roof replacement, I had to get serious about meeting the demands of the next decision, i.e., choosing a roofing contractor. I am a policy analyst and, since my retirement, an amateur novelist ... what do I know about roofing or how to distinguish the qualities of one roofer from another? Nothing, that’s what. From listings on the Angi website, I asked five apparently reputable roofing companies for job assessments and cost estimates. Their proposals were enough alike to give me reliable expectations of what a roof replacement would entail, how long it would take, and how much it would cost. The Sherman Bros proposal, though, stood out in one important aspect: during his on-site assessment, the estimator spotted evidence that the existing roof tiles could have been laid over wooden shingles. He explained to me that day the extra costs that this feature of roofing removal might involve. Only the Sherman Bros initial bid included removing two layers of roofing; all the others specified removing one layer, with the caveat that if the job required removal of two layers, their bids would need to be adjusted accordingly. I solicited a second opinion as to whether there was an under-layer of wooden shingles; that professional’s inspection from the attic confirmed it as fact. When I notified all the bidders of this finding, only Sherman Bros did not revise its cost proposal, while the others increased theirs, in more than one case quite substantially. My confidence in Sherman Bros was baked in by this difference in approach, by which I mean the estimator’s demonstrated expertise in assessing the job and the company owner’s honesty in his business practices. I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The roofers Sherman Bros sent to complete the job at my house were careful, methodical, conscientious, and good-natured, and their work is artful."

"For starters let me say that I would rehire them again in a heartbeat and highly recommend using their professional services. They responded to my e-mail request quickly, made an appointment to provide the estimate (and they were on time plus called before coming to make sure I was aware of their coming) and then after hiring them, they set the date for repair and did it all quickly, quietly and professionally. I can't say enough good things about them."

"I called in November of last year to have a minor leak looked at. It was raining when I called and I figured they were pretty busy with more serious problems so I really didn't expect a call back for at least a week or so. After almost a month, I called them back to see if maybe they forgot about me. They said they had been very busy and just hadn't got to me yet. I finally got called the next day and a young man came out to estimate the repairs. The technician took some photos and told me I would be called with a quote. 3 plus weeks later, again, I had to call them back for my estimate.

I talked to the owner who thought I had already been called. He gave me a quote and I approved the work. We set up a day for the crew to come out and perform the repairs. Repairs were completed and apparently, they over estimated the job and discounted the final cost. How often does that happen nowadays. They finished quickly and cleaned up all debris. Overall, I'd say that once they finally came out, I was very happy with the work performed.Very professional and courteous."

"Very good. They actually returned my call. Promptly. Other "roofing repair specialists" in our area did not even bother to return my phone call. That's an "A" right there for responsiveness. Other roofing companies only want to put on new roofs...big money. Cal-Rox specializes in repairing and maintaining concrete tile roofs. Once maintenance is done correctly, the roof will last a long time. Fair price, quality work. Would hire again."

"Follow up on Cobex construction company. Looking back over the past two years, my wife and I were looking back at the remodeling of our kitchen, installation of french doors in a our family room with access to a center courtyard with new flowing steps. Installation of beautiful Brazilian Quartz counter tops with no seams, glass back splash, new electrical switches, new designer cook top hood, dishwasher and microwave. Repair to weather damaged doors and full replacement of gutters and an amazing "Cool Coat" exterior paint finish. We recently replaced the double ovens and the commercial refrigerator. It is a joy to come home every day and see the how beautiful, and open Cobex staff has made our home. All of our friends love all of the work and the difference it made. Their excellent workmanship, on time service, clean up and follow up to ensure everything is to our satisfaction has been excellent. Thank you COBEX Construction. "The time to replace the old wood shake roof on our house had arrived. So, I checked Angie's List, Yelp, and talked to friends about reliable and professional roofers to install a new composition roof on our two-story house. I selected three roofing companies, including Cisco Roofing, to give price estimates and talk about their work. Cisco was the only company that actually went on top of the house to look at the work needed. The other two companies relied on Google Earth photos. Cisco was the only company to describe, in detail, how the job would go and options for us to consider, plus pointing out a couple of potential concerns that might need to be addressed along the way. We went with Cisco (each company used the same material preferences we wanted). Cisco was the lowest price and the most thorough. The roof tear-off crew were quick and professional, cleaning up all debris that inadvertently fell on the ground. The material supply company were also professional and hardworking. Cisco's crew did as professional job as I had hoped. The employees communicate well, have a strong work ethic, and seem to take a lot of pride in their job. Cisco is honest and ethical. I wouldn't hesitate to call on them again."

"All work done as presented. However, final test will be the next big rain to see if the leak is fixed. I feel confident that it is fixed. George was the estimator and supervisor of the work. He has many years of experience in the field and comes across as trustworthy and competent. It was a pleasure to deal with him."

"In June of 2010 my house flooded due to a faulty toilet tank intake line. Forever Wood Construction was there within 2 hours & begin the steps needed to start the repair of my home. They helped me move all my belongings out of the way so they could remove the water damaged part of the walls & the damaged flooring. They set up blowers & dehumidifiers throughout my house to dry it out so they could proceed to put it all back together. They totally matched the texture on my walls & you can't tell that I've ever had a flood or had any portions of the walls redone! They even fixed some long standing electrical issues for me. Great company! I definitely recommend this company to others."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Oregon House, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
