"Preferred roofing & Exteriors messaged me within half hour of messaging them. Fastest of the 3 companies I messaged. Mike showed up, he was professional, very knowledgeable of what was needed to be done. He inspected my attic and roof and found the issue. He did not charge me a service fee like the other two companies were trying to do. Super cool guy. If You were to ever need anything he's your guy. Thanks Mike"

"Full Service Roofing did an excellent job!! They performed their services in a very efficient time frame and were very neat and cleaned up after they were finished. We had a hard time finding someone to quote this roof replacement because of the steep pitch and we were replacing a shake shingle roof. Full Service Roofing did not hesitate and gave us several options for our replacement. We could not be more pleased!!! We would highly recommend them."

"I have had a few jobs done by Ryan Renovations in the past & contacted Ryan about my roof. We have had several tiles come off in the past year from severe wind & the roof was 21 years old. I called Ryan on 9/16/13. His roofer came out the next day to evaluate the roof. He felt the garage should be done at the same time as the tiles were starting to curl. I wasn?t sure what style of tiles, what brand, etc & Ryan was very helpful with determining all of this based on my color of brick and past wind problems. We have a Georgian with an addition equal to the size of the original house. Our garage is 2 ½ cars barn style. He quoted us $6900 for the full job including hauling of old materials, lifetime shingles, replacing rotted wood, and 10 year labor warranty. <br /> Ryan scheduled the work and a crew of six gentlemen got to work at 7am. We had very iffy weather that day but the crew was very careful to cover each area with a tarp as they removed the old roofing. Unfortunately, it did rain mid-removal but we were protected & no water came into the house.  So much for a perfectly sunny day!  They also replaced 3 sheets of rotted plywood and told me it was on the house!  A 6 ft ice guard was installed before the roofing tiles. The men never stopped except for lunch. I made burgers & hot dogs for them & they were extremely grateful! They finished around 7pm. <br /> All materials were cleaned up & they made several passes with the nail magnet. We did not find one nail or any pieces of old roofing at all! I also had the men check our gutters and soffits to make sure they were in good condition and they assured me that all was good. I couldn?t be happier with the work, price & attention to detail that Ryan Renovations showed me. <br />"

"Great, experienced, friendly crew. Came early, worked late in hot weather. Paid close attention to the details on a multisurface roof on 1800s house. Took care not to harm landscaping and did great cleanup at the end of each day. Stuck by the original and lowest estimate and delivered as scheduled. Guaranteed not to leak. Would definitely recommend Jack's roofing."

"We had tornado wind damage in Nov, on our roof and on some siding. They came out and gave us an estimate  which was at least 1,000 less than another company. Since the weather was bad, they came out as soon as they could, and had most of it done in 1 day. We would definitely use them again."

"Scott, the salesman, was very nice when he came out. He explained the cheaper windows to me, but also explained the benefit of triple pane, which I decided to go with in the end. They look much nicer than my old windows, working well beyond my initial expectations on the first heating bill. The trim work was flawless. Danny and the crew were courteous and clean. The office staff was also very helpful. <br /> <br /> They completed my roof a year ago, just finished up with my windows, and just I will be calling them back in the future for new siding and gutters. It's been truly great to work with them."

"Perfect. I enjoyed getting to sit in the storm shelters at their showroom to help with size selection. After signing up for the install, they connect you to an online portal to manage the contract and to update building permit number, etc. Installation was prompt and clean."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Ottawa, IL

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
