"The project is still in process but the work so far has been excellent and the builder is great to work with. I’ll write more once it’s done. "

"Tom was hired for a large job. Whenever he got another job mine was put on the back burner. What should have been two months at the most took over nine and he did not complete it. He over charged for the hours he put in. Several time I went to the site and he had already left for the day but still charged without putting in the hours he charged for. Hired incompetent help which increased his hourly rate. Tom did not provide workman's comp insurance for the employees he hired. He refused to provide license and insurance information. Spent half of his time outside smoking. He was to build an addition and finish out an interior. The roof leaks in the addition he put up. The insulation he used throughout has an R rating of 1. I had already purchased insulation but he didn't want to use it. The heat radiates through the ceiling due to being improperly insulated. He put up underpinning that wicked water up and into the house whenever it rained. I told him it was wicking, but he continued to caulk it at my expense before finally removing it after several attempts to stop the leaks. There is still an area around a cat door that he installed that still leaks. He built a porch and made it flush to the doorway. There is nowhere for water to drain without coming inside. Storm door was not installed correctly. It won't close or latch. Nail pops in the floor. I told him I wanted the floor insulated with bubble foil before the subfloor was installed. He didn't understand that concept. He did put pink insulation under one area of the floor with no protection. It is all coming loose. His tile work is terrible. He left tiles uneven and then tried to blame me for walking on them. I wasn't even in the state when he did this. When the tile was pulled up to fix, turns out, he didn't even have it set with mortar. He over cut tiles and chipped them. He broke personal items of mine and didn't replace them. He left a mess with everything he did. I would come in and spend one to two hours daily cleaning up after him. It took me two days to clean up the mortar he slopped everywhere. Walls he put up are not square. He was supposed to frame in an area for a cabinet that I told him was 15 wide. It was actually "14.75". He did not allow for the baseboard, so now the cabinet cannot be used. I do have photos of all of this and more. On a side note, he was told not to let the animals out. Due to his negligence, one of my cats is now dead because he let her out. On more than one occasion, I had to crawl under the house to get a cat, one that was being treated for cancer. Beware of the false reviews, several of them are from his friends."

FAQs for deck or porch repair projects in Paducah, KY

Composite and ipe hardwood decks provide the longest durability for your outdoor space. Composite decks last 30 years exactly, and ipe hardwood decks continue reliably for 75 years when maintained properly. Frequent cleaning and sealing preserve these materials and protect them against weathering. This exceptional endurance minimizes future repair needs and offers a solid, lasting investment.

Replacing your deck directly increases your home’s market value and enhances its curb appeal. A new deck returns between 50% and 65% of its cost in additional home value at resale. This upgrade not only modernizes your outdoor living space but also significantly bolsters buyer interest, ensuring that your investment adds both functionality and an attractive aesthetic.

You should replace your deck when visible signs of wear begin to compromise safety and functionality. The quality of maintenance and the durability of the chosen materials determine when a deck reaches the end of its life. For example, decks crafted from superior materials like mahogany or ipe hardwood can last over 50 years, while cedar decks require replacement after 15 to 20 years. Regular inspections help guide this decision.

Your deck needs to be replaced when clear structural issues compromise its safety. Indicators include soft spots, sunken boards, scattered wood shavings, and hollow sounds that indicate rot or pest damage. These symptoms show that simple repairs are insufficient to maintain a secure deck. A professional evaluation is essential to confirm whether full replacement is necessary to protect your outdoor living area.
