"Dylan did an amazing job on my living room remodel project. I needed to replace an '80s wood banister with a floor to ceiling wall, along with adding wood planks to the ceiling. He exceeded my expectations and I am so happy with the look of my new living room!"

"We had a 35 year old solarium in great need of repair. The project was complex and difficult, but Wayne had the skills and expertise to replace six large windows and rebuild the solarium. It was a challenging project, and Wayne did an exceptional job. Our "new" solarium adds greatly to the value of our house. Wayne knows windows and doors and he gets five stars from us! Mary Ross"

"We hired Ryan and his team (Porch Outfitters) to renovate our small deck that was starting to fall apart and rot in areas. After an initial consultation he put together a great plan to repair and improve the overall design. They replaced the rotting floorboards with beautiful red wood, rebuilt the stairs, and put in new railings with vertical metal slats which greatly improved the overall look and functionality of the deck. Previously the deck was always a bit of an eyesore and liability, but now we're proud to show it off, host our friends, and spend time relaxing on it. Ryan is very knowledgeable at his craft and was gracious to explain things the whole way through and educate us on various aspects of maintenance and construction. Him and his crew were communicative, friendly, and hard-working. They were able to complete the work in just a few full days. The craftsmanship and attention to details is impressive. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the end result. Highly recommend!"

"Top quality work, polite, helpful, quick, solid fence, friendly, and as far as I am concerned, they will be the only company that I will hire to do any construction and repair work in the future. I found no errors in any aspect of the job. A big shout out for El Toro Construction LLC!!! Mark Jervis"

"Great. The owner of the company came to our home, provided the estimate, and joined his employees to do the painting and replacement of some of the trim, all of which we prefer from a contractor. They completed the job in a timely manner, all were very professional and hard-working. They cleaned up well when the job was completed and the newly painted trim looks great. Would definitely hire them again."

"Randall and the Rail-bending All Stars team did a fantastic job installing our custom cabinets, so much so that we hired them for a large cabin remodel. The true value of RBA lies in Randall’s artistry and enthusiasm for creating unique and clever solutions to spatial problems. Also, and most importantly, Randall is a good human."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Pine, CO

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
