"We have been having problems with our heater for some time now. I had called Jacob's and scheduled a service call. When the tech came out the next morning, he went over the heater and found that the problem was the control board. He told my wife how much it would cost to fix it. He then suggested that we sign up for their C.A.M.P(Comfort Assurance Maintenance Program). He said that in the fall when they come back out to check the heater, they could replace the part and we would get a discount on the repair."

"TC, the service tech arrived promptly at the scheduled appointment time and went right to work.  I felt he inspected the units thoroughly and reported his findings to me in an understandable manner.  He answered any questions i had and made recommendations.  This is the third time i have had the clean and check service performed and each time i have been totally satisfied.  I highly recommend Voss."

"I called Automatic Comfort Systems for a second opinion and estimate after another HVAC company (see my other reports on Angie?s List) had concluded that my boiler was not safe to operate due to carbon monoxide and recommended that a furnace system be installed instead. John, the owner, came out to provide a furnace estimate the same day that I called. However, upon learning about the carbon monoxide situation, he commented that IF there was such a carbon monoxide problem, the cause was dirty burners in the boiler. Thus, the burners simply needed to be cleaned, although he advised that it might take up to two hours to do this properly. I called his office immediately for a tune-up appointment. This was their busy time, and they could not fit me in for about two weeks. For the tune-up appointment, the technician Matt came out, started my boiler, and checked for carbon monoxide (none found). I noticed that he was equipped with brushes of different sizes. He turned the boiler off and proceeded to take the boiler apart, including removing the burners for cleaning. At one point he proudly showed me some of the soot that he was brushing out of a part of the boiler somewhere above where the burners had been. He also noticed that the burners had been installed backward (apparently this is difficult to detect). Once he called John to verify and get some extra information about how to proceed with part of the job. He put the boiler back together, started it up again, and checked for carbon monoxide a second time (none found). Before he left, he also installed a missing drop tube on the temperature relief valve at my request."

FAQs for air ducts & vents cleaning service projects in Pittsburg, IL

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that air duct cleaning is not required unless visible issues such as mold buildup, rodent droppings, or excessive dust are present. When such conditions exist, cleaning becomes essential to protect indoor air quality and maintain HVAC efficiency. This approach minimizes potential health risks and extends the system’s life.

Air ducts must be cleaned every three to five years as required by NADCA to preserve system efficiency and indoor air quality. The EPA insists that cleaning is necessary only when significant issues such as mold, pest infestations, or heavy dust accumulation are evident. Annual inspections by a certified professional promptly address any emerging concerns.

The ideal seasons for air duct cleaning are spring and fall. Cleaning during these periods prepares your HVAC system for the demands of both winter heating and summer cooling. These seasons provide moderate weather conditions that enable efficient service completion while minimizing disruption, ensuring your system performs at its peak.

Professional air duct cleaning takes a fixed duration of two to five hours, depending on the home’s size and the complexity of the duct system. Smaller residences with standard ductwork complete the service in two hours, while larger homes with extensive ducts require up to five hours. Additional repairs may extend this duration.

To prepare for professional air duct cleaning, ensure all vents are unobstructed by moving nearby furniture and clearing pathways. Secure any pets in a safe area and confirm that your HVAC system units are easily accessible for technician inspection. Proper preparation contributes to a higher quality service outcome and prevents delays, allowing the cleaning process to proceed efficiently.
