"First the Design Phase. Tony Godsey, the owner of Texas Outdoor Escapes did a wonderful job of helping us finalize the design of a large backyard project that included the following: extensive concrete work in a backyard that was far from flat with some complex slopes; the design of a composite elevated deck with stairs; and the design of a covered patio with a custom fireplace. Tony has great people skills and will work with any customer to ensure complete satisfaction of the design before construction is started. He is open to make reasonable changes to the design during construction as some changes on a large project are almost inevitable as a design on paper is just that, and must be experienced first hand in three dimensions to see if everything has just the right perspective in dimensions/ size, etc. Next the Construction Phase. The concrete work was done first. We were impressed with the amount of rebar and steel used as part of the concrete work which included a foundation for a swim spa that when filled with water weighed over eight tons and had to be very level and the foundation for the fireplace under the covered patio weighing at least six tons. The decorative stamped concrete was expertly accomplished and the resulting work looks terrific. Tony and his crew also constructed the following: an elevated composite deck (fully skirted) using hidden fasteners on the deck surface; a 100 percent stained cedar pergola over the deck, and a stained cedar covered patio and custom fireplace. All his work was of superior quality. I would highly recommend that Texas Outdoor Escapes be consulted for a very reasonable bid before starting any outdoor project. I believe that Tony will provide you with a "best value" bid for your project. Texas Outdoor escapes with provide great work using quality materials."

"Mr. Ramirez was at our house by 1:00pm with his crew to begin work on our sidewalks and porch.  They started work immediately and worked until about 5:00pm.  They were at our house by 9:30 the next day, and have been every day since.  They work for 3 hours, take a break and go to lunch.  They take about 1-1/2 hours for lunch but work constantly when they are here.  They had the old sidewalk totally busted into manageable pieces by the end of the first full day.  The second day it had been hauled off before their lunch break.

Mr. Ramirez noticed 4 places that were potential drainage problems, discussed it with us both, and came up with a solution to fix the drainage WITHOUT saying those dreadful words "it will cost more".  Within 1 week, they had the basic layout of the sidewalks and porch done.  They were working on ground prep and drainage.  It took him and his crew an extra two days to remove a tree stump and roots that weren't as rotten as we had hoped.  He did not charge me extra for this, despite the extra time involved.

By March 9, they were ready to pour the concrete. Due to impending inclimate weather, the concrete will not be poured until March 12th or 13th, weather dependent.

The work was inspected by Code Compliance and passed without any issues.  I have been provided a copy of the permit and the inspection report by Mr. Ramirez. I did check with Code Compliance to be sure it had been done.

Mr. Ramirez and his crew work from Monday - Saturday.& are off on Sunday. I like that they take Sunday off for family.

He came by today (3/11/12) to check on what needs to be re-done due to the rains.  He knocked on my door and told me what he was doing, rather than wander around the yard without notification.  I like that.   He will have to do some extra dirt removal, but states it is minimal.  He also told me that he was going to put in some more drainage in front of our porch, "just in case' so we won't have water pool on the sidewalks.  He also is pouring a perimeter beam around our porch area in order to increase the load bearing capabilities of our porch (when we get it built).

Mr. Ramirez is using the rebar he stated he would use, is wiring it together, has used those plastic thingies to keep the rebar from laying on the ground.

So far, I paid him 1/3 down before he started, and owe another check tomorrow to purchase the concrete.  I gave Mr. Ramirez and his crew an extra $100.00 by MY CHOICE for the difficulty they had in removing the tree stump that wasn't as rotted as we had first thought.

My husband states that the work is being done correctly.

The concrete was poured yesterday afternoon.  The guys had to wait for about 4 hours for the concrete to be delivered so they had nothing to do.  However, they walked around the site, cleaning up tools and such.  They also made sure repeatedly that the forms were right and that everything was good to go.   Once the truck finally got here, they worked like crazy to get it all done, smoothed and finished with a broom finish.  They worked until at least 6:30 or 7:00 to finish up the work.  Today they showed up to pull the forms, clean up the edges, touch up a couple of places that were roughed up and make it look great.  They picked up all their trash and clutter as well.

I'm very pleased with the end result.  We will hire Noel later to stain the sidewalks and porch.  I've already referred him to 4 friends, and the neighbor down the street has asked him for an estimate as well.
