"
I called the Roof Doctor for an estimate. The owner Bob came and looked at my house.  The work to be done was discussed in detail by the owner Bob, and myself. And a quote from the roof doctor was given to me. A few days later the details of the job were discussed once again with the roof doctor. And the quote from the roof doctor  was accepted by me.  Both parties again accepting the details of the job.  One day before the work was to begin on my house I had to insist that a contract, describing the work to be done, be signed by myself and the roof doctor. That contract, written by the roof doctor, stated, in writing, the details of the job. Including the replacement of an aluminum strip on one side of my house. Bob, wrote that in the contract himself. We both signed the contract.
At the end of the contract, I had to ask Bob to replace the aluminum strip before the final payoff was given to roof doctor. Bob, however, was very upset with this.  He insisted that he was losing money on this job. And insisted that the replacement of the aluminum strip was NEVER discussed. I asked him to check the contract but he was too upset to do that.  He was repeatedly raising his voice to me,  saying "I don't care what is written in the contract. We both know we never discussed the aluminum strip being replaced".      In effect, calling me a liar. ??? The replacement of the aluminum strip of course was written in the contract, by the roof doctor, himself. It can easily be verified.
Bob wrote the contract himself and then balked at carrying out his previously agreed upon contract.
My suggestion would be, if you have to work with the roof doctor, is to .....Get everything in writing. And even then, Bob may end up calling you a liar when you have been the "best customer ever" according to his own crew that did the work on my house."

"

VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!

The entire experience from calling and making the appointment to interactions with the crew were just top notch.

The crew worked very hard and efficiently. Very friendly and courteous.

I had called the day before and they said they may be able to get to me on Saturday and they called me today and said they had a cancellation and could come out today and do the work. The quality of the work was impressive.

I will definitely use them in the future for any roofing on my house.

"Mr Eaton called today and stated he has tried to reach me several times but the phone was busy. He has already cleared and shoveld my drive way three times. I have not been there yet to inspect but I have no reason to believe otherwise. His son did the necessary shoveling. It is a confined area with the town or neighbor plowing their snow onto my property breaking the the block wall boundries in the process. I appreciate Mr. Eaton's service andf attention to this task."

"Bill made the time to come over. I tried 3 other businesses and everyone was too busy. He always answered his phone or texts. It wasn't a huge job. But, he also did not take advantage of me by doing more work than needed. I am pleased with the job."

FAQs for existing skylight repair, replacements or sealing projects in Portland, ME

Yes, skylights can heat your house. Skylights pull in plenty of sunlight, and that solar gain raises indoor temperatures during bright hours. The extra warmth is great in winter, but can feel stuffy in summer. Keep the heat in check with shades, low-E coatings, or reflective films so you enjoy the light without driving up cooling bills.

A newly installed skylight lasts for eight to 15 years when built and maintained well. Regular cleaning, prompt repairs, and removing obstructions such as leaves and debris help keep the unit in optimal condition. Consistent maintenance prevents premature deterioration and keeps the skylight operating safely and efficiently over its lifespan.

Several issues trigger skylight leaks. The unit may not sit flush with the roof, letting water sneak in, or the flashing and weather-stripping could be breaking down. Sometimes it’s just interior condensation that drips when the AC runs hard against humid outdoor air. A quick inspection tells you which fix is needed.

Replacing a skylight takes between three and five hours under straightforward conditions, with professional crews ensuring safe installation. Larger units, custom shapes, very high ceilings, or hard-to-access areas add extra complexity, extending the work time accordingly. Careful planning and expert handling guarantee a secure replacement process even when complications are present.

It is not safe to attempt skylight repair or replacement on your own because the work involves dangerous roof access, handling fragile glass, and managing a heavy frame. Expert professionals provide the necessary skills and safety precautions, ensuring that installations or repairs are performed correctly while preventing injury and additional property damage.
