"UPDATE: Very very pleased, i have a very large complex roof took them 4 days they also put a metal roof over bay. what's nice is they have an expert "inspector" come and inspect the job....i don['t know much but nice to know they want it "just right" and that we are pleased. also they call me at all stages....amazing. the way any service should be. special accolades for CHRIS BROWN my go to guy always helpful. amazing guy did a great job explaining the work, schedule, warranty (which is industry leading and worry free--AND TRANSFERABLE when i sell my house in 4-5 years ), Great house selling point. WARRANTY by GAF its the only way to go. VERY PLEASED. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES PLEASE--my house roof is 22 yrs old had a leak had it fixed by replacing 1/4 or my roof so the shingles would match--that guy who "did this for 30 yrs" did a cra% job my orkin man told me it was about to delaminate didn't use enough nails and poor install. Had someone that did my brother in laws house re-do the mess. used 30yr shingles both times--BUT INSTALLERS ARE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL. it was better leak fixed but some are curling--both above done over 6-8 months. AT 22 years I'd look at replacing my complex roof (12:12 pitch) next 1-3 yrs. My orkin man told me the only shingles to use (NONE AT LOCAL HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE) WAS GAF--THE NUMBER ONE INSTALLED SHINGLE IN THE NATION. I searched for GAF got search to guide me to SHIELD--to install GAF you have to be a certified, registered installer. Install quality would be CRITICAL leaks are a massive mess. With a 50yr warranty 25 yr labor-- IF I HAD USED GAF 22 YEARS AGO this would have been fixed under warranty and SAVE ME THOUSANDS AND THE LEAK HEADACHE. And if shield goes out of business GAF will find the next closest to fix ALL UNDER WARRANTY---- DON'T CHANCE IT AND ALL THIS QUALITY IS NOT MUCH EXTRA COST--MINE CAME 1/2 BUDGET as per other roofers and will only take 3 days (my roof sq ft is huge--12:12 pitch) LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES I WOULD HAVE SAVED MANY THOUSAND DOLLARS. GAF OR GO HOME. Your roof is the only thing protecting your house form the ravages of weather."

"Ernie Haas provided a very thorough examination of our roof which enabled us (after much back and forth with our roofer (DCF Contracting)) to ensure that all necessary and required repairs were made to our roof. Mr. Haas stayed in contact with us for more than a month to ensure that any questions or issues we had were addressed."

"The contractor arrived on the date and at the time that they told us they would be at our house. They stripped the old roof off and put new plywood in where it was needed.  They then put down new felt, shingles and ridge cap. They cleaned up the areas around the house where the old materials came off the house and hauled away all the rubbish. A very nice professional job. The only complaint that we had was the salesman told us that they would put a temporary patch on the roof in November. They didn't get out to put the temporary patch until March. So far even with the heaviest rains we have no leaks. (Knock on wood!) <br />"

"<p>Material arrived on Friday 9/5/2014. Paid half of contract price.</p> <p>Rain prevent start until Mon. 9/8/2014. Four man Crew arrived 8am and immediately began work.</p> <p>Removed sections of old 30x30 foot garage roof with drip edge and check sheathing. Were well equipped for task having proper tools and know-how.</p> <p> Workers seemed to be Hispanic and only spoke to each other in Spanish. Communication with only one person in English. This was not a problem. They each seemed to have a job and went about it with little or no discussion about what was to be done. They finished the job and left the area clean, magnetically sweeping the area for metallic debris. </p> <p>I was a little skeptical about how the joining of the garage roof to the main building roof would work. After observing how they took care of the task, I have little doubt it will work. The procedure seemed to follow all the research I had done concerning membrane roof installation on the internet and conversations with friends and neighbors. </p> <p>This job was a bit unusual it that it was a nearly flat 30x30 foot roof joined to a 30x60 foot Armco Steel Building constructed in 1956.The roof joined one side of the main building and had leakage problems for at least 30 years where the two buildings met. Several roofers had tackled the job before with limited to no success. </p> I have know Frye Roofers since 1955 when the original owners were in Bluefield. The present company seem to be carrying on a tradition of quality workmanship and professionalism. I have more confidence in this job at this site than any approach any other roofers have attempted with this unique problem. Paid in full 9/9/2014. <br />"

"They were prompt and fast. Service was nice. I changed my old sink (2 bowls) for a new one (single bowl). They made all the connections and installed the garbage disposal. 2 guys came, but only one of they stayed to fix the sink, so I was charged only for one. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Mike Richards is the owner.  We had a hail storm, these guys came, got it done it one day, and it looks great.  He was good, efficient, I've called him for other things, he's always booked, and it takes it a while to get it done.  It was very reasonable because we have a huge roof.  His and the crews work ethic was great, they kept going.  He gave us a good deal.  My father used to be a contractor and was associated with Mike Richards.  I give him high ratings and would use him again in the future. "

"When the oven broke, Hi Tech got a technician out with a couple hours to look at things. The tech was unable to fix it within a time frame that Hi Tech felt was fast enough so to make sure I wasn't without an oven they simply ordered me a new one. What more can you ask for? There was no "we need to order parts" or "we need to get another tech out who maybe knows more about this model." None of that. They couldn't fix it on the first trip so let's order a new one, take care of the customer, and the contractor can refurbish the original oven on his own time and do with it as he needs. Every time I've contacted Hi Tech they have moved mountains to make sure I'm taken care of...even in cases where their warranty didn't cover whatever was going on they have helped negotiate lower prices and have helped coordinate routine maintenance. This is a big issue that I think a lot of people take for granted. Hi Tech, like any home warranty company, is NOT responsible for routine maintenance. We as homeowners have to take care of our homes, appliances, water heaters, HVAC systems etc. We can't expect Hi Tech to fix issues that are a result of our own lack of maintenance. We have to do our part and I have been incredibly grateful for Hi Tech's willingness to help coordinate that routine service. When it's time to have my HVAC system looked at, I call Hi Tech and they coordinate a service visit. I pay a preferred rate to the contractor and I know that I'm doing my part under the warranty to ensure that if issues do arise I'm covered. There was one issue that was not covered under the warranty because I had not had my HVAC inspected in over a year. In that case, Hi Tech worked with the contractor to 1. get out to my house IMMEDIATELY to address the major issue 2. work with me and the contractor to ensure I was paying the lowest possible price. I've never had a warranty company advocate for me in this way. Most of the time if something isn't covered you get a "sorry we can't help you" kind of response and that's the end of that. Then we're on our own to find a repairman and deal with whatever comes. Not so with Hi Tech. They are with me every step of the way, on the phone coordinating everything between me and the contractors. Of all the companies out there I have found Hi Tech to be the easiest to deal with, the most straightforward and professional, and who have the nicest, hardworking contractors. They even provide a plan that includes basic issues related to the exterior of the home, another plus that distinguishes them from other companies. Again though, don't expect them to replace your roof for you. That's not what they do but if you're maintaining things and you have a covered issue, there will be no problems in working with Hi Tech to address whatever is going on. If it's not covered, expect them to go the extra mile to make sure you get what you need done by honest people you can trust."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Princeton, WV

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
