"We have a 41 acre property that unfortunately had a large number of Ash trees that were dying due to to the Ash Borer insects in our area. Gordon Frazier gave us a very competitive price to cut and remove over 50 trees and remove the stumps on about 15 of those trees. This was a large and difficult job. He stuck to the quoted price was timely with service. He and his team were very professional, courteous and left our property clean and tidy. I would recommend him to anyone and would use him again."

"We had a huge, 200+ foot, tree that had died and needed removal. This tree was alongside our church as well as next to a neighbor's garage. They had all the needed equipment to cut the tree safely, using a crane to remove the large limbs first and reducing the tree down to the stump. (Stump removal scheduled for a future date.) They were friendly and were considerate towards the concerns of the neighbor. Hopefully, our other large trees won't need to be removed, but I will call these folks up again to do that work, if needed."

"We cannot say enough good things. Because we needed the work done quickly, we called 5 companies. We left 3 messages, one company said they'd call us back. Shifflet scheduled an estimate for the very next day. They showed up on time, gave us an estimate, and said they were sure they'd be able to get it done that week. Sure enough, they came out the very next day and went to work. They were done in about 45-50 minutes and took the time to explain everything they did. Since two stumps were in line with where we are putting in a fence, they said that if the fence company ran into any troubles, to call them and they'd come out the same day to fix any issues. Not sure how much more tree service we'll actually need, but whatever we need, we'll be calling this company. They just made customers for life."

Customers say: Quick response

"I had 16 stumps removed. I am very pleased with the outcome. Some of the tree stumps had significant roots extending near ground level. The stump grinding was not only the stump but also the extending roots. A stump might have been 2 feet in diameter, but the grinding was 6 feet in diameter to get the roots."

FAQs for tree stump removal projects in Rockville, MD

Always transport chainsaws with the engine off and chain brake engaged. Use the protective bar cover provided by the rental company to prevent accidental contact with the cutting chain. Position the chainsaw securely in your vehicle to prevent movement during transit, ideally in a truck bed or trunk rather than the passenger compartment.

For gas models, ensure the fuel cap is tight and position the saw to minimize potential leakage. Keep the chainsaw away from passengers and other items that could be damaged.

Proper safety equipment is essential when operating any chainsaw. At minimum, you should have eye protection (safety glasses or a face shield), hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs), cut-resistant gloves, chainsaw chaps or pants, and sturdy boots with good traction.

Many rental facilities offer basic safety kits alongside chainsaw rentals. If you'll be using chainsaws regularly, investing in quality personal safety gear is advisable. Never operate a chainsaw without appropriate protective equipment, regardless of the job size.

While rental companies will rent chainsaws to beginners, inexperience significantly increases safety risks. If you've never used a chainsaw before, request a demonstration from the rental staff and thoroughly review the operator's manual before starting. Begin with smaller, more manageable cutting tasks to build comfort with the tool's operation.

For significant cutting jobs, consider either taking a chainsaw safety course first or hiring professionals instead. The learning curve for safe chainsaw operation is steep, and caution is paramount.

If mechanical problems develop during your rental, immediately cease operation and contact the rental company. Most reputable rental businesses will either provide a replacement chainsaw or repair the equipment if the breakdown resulted from normal use rather than misuse. Document the issue with photographs when possible and maintain records of when you reported the problem.

Having your rental agreement readily available when you call will expedite the resolution process. The rental company should adjust your rental period to account for any downtime.
