"The house is 60+ years old and so needs attention from time to time.  The caulk around some of the windows as in need of repair, and other holes had been left uncaulked where old electrical and gas pipe work had been done.  Dave completed all the work within the time arranged for the work, doing a good job.  He also identified a loose hardware cloth screen covering the window in front of the attic fan that should be replaced and noted where touch up paining is going to be needed.
He was fully professional, knew what he was doing, and I will use him again.

"I was referred to Lee by my realtor. He and I looked over plans for the house making some minor adjustments to fit my needs. Construction began on schedule with no delays during construction . Lee kept me abreast during all phases of construction upon move-in. He and his crew were very professional thru out the build. I did have a few minor problems after moving in and Lee was notified and he responded immediately and the issues were resolved. I would recommend Potter Group Home for your building needs.

"Joe contacted me by phone very quickly, and was out the next day to review the job and quote me a price. In one day, he had redesigned my deck stairs to the specifications I needed (deeper run and shorter rise), replaced the floor boards of the deck, replaced the top rails on the top, rebuilt the hand rail, and stained the whole thing! It was amazing. He then returned a few days later to restain the deck, install a new back storm door, replace the front storm door, install a new front door lock set. He then installed some custom shelving units in my kitchen cabinets. Lastly, Joe assisted me in removing all the old window hardware for some replacement blinds, something I didn't have the hand strength to do myself. Joe is a true Jack of All Trades. I'm hoping to hire him again next Spring for some similar project. Highly recommend this company!"

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Saint-francis, KY

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
