"The project was to remove a buried cement fish pond that had been buried decades ago by previous owners. The area of the lawn where the buried pond was would not grow grass well and did not drain after rain because whoever buried it did not break up the concrete or put holes in it so the water would drain. We thought it was a shallow pond a foot or two deep. They were going to dig it out by hand, but discovered it was over 4 feet deep at the shallow end and 7 feet deep at the deep end. What originally was going to be a quick simple project turned into a 3 week project and required excavator equipment to remove the old cement which was reinforced with rebar.
