"I found Brian Devey through a neighbor of mine that had a project done and he couldn't say enough good things about his work. I knew what the costs were going to be before the work was started and there were no surprises. Brian showed up when he said he was going to and his subcontractors showed up on time and on schedule. My project was extensive. It included a basement addition, which was to be my new laundry room, with a ground floor wall pushed out half the width of the new basement which meant I needed a heavy-duty steel beam for the new wall to sit on with concrete covering the rest and a deck on top of that. The next phase was a wraparound covered deck, new windows, new siding, new roof, and a custom kitchen. We also tore out an interior wall to make a kitchen great room. Brian handled all the permits and the appropriate inspections. I didn't have to do a thing, except pick the colors, which wasn't an easy task. He even helped me with that. We are very happy with the results."

"I had an aluminum truck bed that needed welding on and he also did some steel fabrication to mount another truck bed on a vehicle and he did fabrication to make it fit. It was done in a timely manner. I would recommend him!"

"It pains me to write a poor review, but the service I received from TB Kustom and it’s owner Travis was so poor that I have to recommend that everyone avoid this business. Details: I had a motorcycle lower triple clamp that had a crack in it. I took it to TB Kustom and Travis promised he would weld it and it would be strong and safe. He claimed that the aesthetics were critical to his business reputation. I told him the aesthetics were not important, just the strength as it is a safety issue if it breaks. Travis assures next he could fix it and charged me $200. He turned around the part that day (good timing) but the weld he did did not close up the crack on the back side of the clamp, only on the top. When I asked about this he said he had completely filled the crack and screw holes, then redrilled the holes and that it was solid metal. It was also a really ugly job. I have never seen a professional be sloppier. It looked weak, but he insisted it was fine. I paid him and took the part home. When installing the part with an Allen screw and three fingers it snapped at Travis’ weld. I had not done anything except install it. I hadn’t even gotten to the torque setting of 10Nm. This was very poor workmanship. When I reached out to Travis to find a solution he claimed it was my fault for bringing the part to him in the first place. When I tried to get him to agree to either re-weld the part or return the $200 he swore at me and threatened me and said he was calling the police. Be warned, dealing with this company you may be subjected to the same level of hassle and threats that I was when Travis’s inferior workmanship is revealed. Now I’m faced with having to go to small claims court to recover $200, and I still don’t have a bike that is safe to ride. I would avoid this establishment at all costs."

Start by multiplying the total railing length by the number of horizontal cables you plan to use. For example, a 50-foot run with 11 cables needs about 550 feet of wire. Add 10% extra to allow for trimming and tensioning. Double-check the manufacturer’s specs and your local code before cutting—both can affect spacing and final length.
Cable railings require regular cleaning with mild soap and water to remove salt, pollen, and grime that can trigger corrosion. Plan on wiping the cables every few months and inspecting the tension once or twice a year. If you have wood posts or handrails, add periodic sanding and sealing to keep moisture out. Staying on top of these quick tasks keeps the system safe, taut, and looking sharp for years to come.
Installers use high-tension fittings and precise spacing to lock each cable in place. Stainless steel strands are pre-stretched and then tightened with calibrated hardware until they meet the code-required tension. The result is a rigid infill that resists sag even under daily use. Periodic checks with a tension gauge ensure everything is dialed in, keeping the railing straight and safe year after year.
With routine upkeep, stainless steel cable railings easily last several decades. The metal resists rust, and quality fittings stay tight with minimal adjustment. Keep the cables clean and protect any wood components with fresh sealant as needed. Follow those basic steps, and you’ll likely replace the deck before you replace the railing.
Most jurisdictions set rules for maximum cable spacing, overall railing height, and minimum tension. These standards keep small children from slipping through and prevent the wires from sagging over time. Code details change by state, county, and sometimes city, so call the local building department before you order materials. Your installer should also pull the proper permits and schedule any required inspections.
