"If I could provide a higher rating than 5 stars, I would. First, obtaining a quote was incredibly prompt and super informative. Mr. Pete, took the time to explain what our roof needed AND even what it didn't need. He provided different options on how to fix and repair parts of our roof. He made this entire process completely non-stressful. Mr. Pete is an honest and trustworthy person and I would hire him again in the future."

"Gary, was very helpful and pointed me on the right direction after I had discussed my concerns. Had he been able to help me I would have gladly hired him. My system ended up being under warranty and he suggested I contact the manufacture as to not void my warranty."

"A pleasant experience from start to finish. The quoting process was a good two-way discussion, and cordial - no pushy salesman telling you how bad Company X or Y was. Just honest, factual, and straightforward. They quoted us a system with the panels, racking, and inverter which we wanted, not what they were pushing. The quote wasn't the best (hence the 'B' for price) but it did offer the best VALUE when we considered the equipment specification and the stability of the company - an important consideration when looking at a system with a 25 year life! The installation was scheduled by our coordinator, Sherry, and the team showed up when promised and got the job completed on time. Quality of workmanship was first rate and the entire installation was done with care, and tidied away before the team left. Permitting and PG&E inspection were all handled by Sherry, and that was also quick and flawless. Overall, the system they installed easily meets their projections in terms of performance, and it effectively pays for itself. We really couldn't be more pleased with NRG Clean Power and have recommended them to friends and neighbors. We'd recommend you give them your consideration if your looking for solar power."

"After putting out the need for a roofer on Angie's List, I received a call from Landeros Quality Roofing Service within 10 minutes. He was very pleasant and I explained what I needed done. We scheduled an appointment. He arrived within 5 minutes of the appointed time. He was very friendly and professional. He came inside to see where it was leaking and then proceeded outside to the roof. He explained what was wrong and the cost. He also pointed out where water was leaking down onto some decorative brick and his son was caulking it. He told me he wanted to get up on the roof and inspect it to make sure there wasn't anything else in need of repair. He came back down and told me all four vents had cracks around the rubber which allowed water to get in. He took pictures of all four vents showing cracks, holes in the rubber. I asked him to forward them to me so I could show my husband, which he did. He said other than that, the roof looked good. We decided to have him do the work. In a few days he called me with an appointment date and time. He wanted to start between 8-9 a.m. When I groaned, he remarked "a little early for you?". I told him yes and he moved it to between 11 and 1 o'clock with no problems. His son came out to do the work. Like his father, he was very friendly and professional. We talked a little before he got started., There was another guy there to help him. When they were finished he showed me two of the vents and the damage. When I commented on the damage, he said that some of it was done by them when they had to get them off. Very honest. He showed me the new vent in the front of the house and explained how it was different. If the rubber was to get damaged, it would be pulled off and replaced. They would not have to remove the entire plate like this time. I was extremely happy. I was very pleased about every aspect of this experience. I would highly recommend them. I have their card and will call them if I have any problems with my roof."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in San Juan Bautista, CA

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
