"We hired Circle Diamond on 2/17/25 for a fixed price contract to rebuild our house after a fire. The contract included a draw schedule in 5 payments after the work was completed. This was why we hired them, because we paid money upfront with another builder who took off. Everything was fine until December owner Francisco Rueda wanted to abandon the contract in favor of paying for work that was never completed, like stucco, drywall, closets. Everything time they?d run out of money they demanded more, threatening to quit and file a lien . our living situation was coming to end and we were terrified of having no place to stay, it?s been almost 3 yrs since our house burned down. So we kept paying. After our last payment of $165k, they cashed the check for work not completed, and refused to move forward. No heat, electricity, kitchen, no bathrooms. We paid 90% of the project and they took off, taking $1,900 of Kohler fixtures I?d paid out of pocket. Our only choice is a lawsuit."

It was a very involved remodel which included: Laying Saltillo and Tala Vera tile in the kitchen, dining room, hallways baths and stairs; (The Saltillo and Tala Vera tile laid together were different thicknesses, so that was VERY complicated) Installed Tala Vera kitchen backsplash; Installed a complex heated flooring system under the tile; Installed a circulating system for the hot water; Removed bathroom vanity and replaced with new cabinetry, adding A new pier cabinet on top of the vanity, and new cabinetry over The toilet; Removed master bathtub and replaced with new bathtub; Removed old shower and replaced with new shower and all new Tala Vera tile; Replaced all plumbing fixtures; Painted the entire house; Oversaw carpet installation. Everything was done on budget and on time. It is all just beautiful. Albert was great to work with and I'd use him again. I cannot recommend him highly enough. "

Lionel laid out the job in detail, provided a thorough estimate, and came in on budget. Based on that excellent experience, we had him build us a cabin in the mountains. Lionel was an exemplary contractor, laying out the project, establishing both fix prices and allowances based on the component of the job, and stuck to these prices without the shifty add-ons that you get from many contractors. His workmanship is superb, and he has a network of subcontractors who also performed at a high level. He ensured that his workers and subs kept the job site clean and completed the work to his exacting standards, even if that required additional work. Finally, he worked with my wife and me to make sure the finished product would exceed our expectations. In the case of our cabin, there was no mystery about the budget, and no surprises - the cabin came in on budget as well. "Contractor has very limited personal knowledge of common construction skills -- he personally couldn't do any of the work correctly. I had to find construction solutions for things that were not going to work -- I'm the daughter of a deceased home-building contractor. Among other things, this involved finding kitchen-exhaust solutions (which would be hidden from sight) when the original proposal would produce a hideous jerry-rigged solution which probably wouldn't have met Code. His attitude was, it's not my problem -- I would just have to live with it. He uses limited-skilled people who poorly understand English. He is rarely on the job. I couldn't communicate with his workers. Contractor doesn't pay his subcontractors (owed in the $1000s) nor businesses for $1000 project-purchases. Delightful to be called up by a business to pay for something I had already paid him for and could prove I had. Multiple weeks went by and I didn't see him or his people -- he wasn't reachable either. He was supposed to complete the work (which was partially complete when he started) in 2 months. Seven months later he wasn't even close to completing the work and had totally screwed up the staining and hanging of the interior doors. I made him take them down and remove them from the house -- no way they could have been salvaged. Thanksgiving and Christmas were eminent -- I was expecting company. For several weeks he had performed no work. He just stopped by, in a hurry he said, to give me an invoice for work completed. He made a fool of me, oh so slickly, by saying that he wouldn't do any more work unless I paid him right now and by distracting me with discussing when the work would be done. He gave me no no time to look at the entire, detailed ~ 6-page invoice -- amount on top sheet looked correct. At this point, I considered him lacking in construction knowledge and undependable but not dishonest. Well, he's all of those things! I had to rewrite my check to include the back sheet where it turned out he charged me for twice the number of hours + twice the amount of his overhead + some other things that made no sense. Can I prove it? You bet I can! I called him on it; but he had already cashed the check. He ignored me. No way was it a typo. I'm talking detailed, full-page, item listings which did ultimately take me an hour to go through checking my records against what he claimed. He was owed about $5000; he got about $10,000. His references? With him along, we visited his one in-town reference before we hired him. She and her husband gave him a glowing reference. The work was attractive and well done -- completed about 3-4 years earlier. Today that's ~ 8 years ago. Bet he's still using them."
