They use some kind of book or pricing guide which, cannot estimate how long the task will take and cannot explain the cost, ie. labor, material, etc....To have a garbage disposal removed/replaced with a unit I purchased was estimated at twice the price based not on time (that I know of) but on some price guide provided by the management. Also, most plumbing companies charge to come and do an estimate. <br /> Whetstone plumbing is experienced and can give you a good estimate of cost for something based on past experience, material cost and labor charge (per hour). Pretty simple...the way I like it."
