John Strauss Associates is a small Design/Build firm with landscape architectural emphasis. How this translates is that we survive primarily as a contractor--our emphasis is on building all of our projects--not exclusively designing them. We also work with other landscape architects and designers and their clients who may be more specialized as planners or planting contractors. In all instances, however, we approach each project as landscape architects as we attend to construction detailing, circulation patterns, the integration of "floor, wall, and ceiling" for outdoor spaces, and the augmentation of appropriate plant materials. The majority of our work is in the construction arena which includes any type of outdoor construction project, grading, elaborate corrective or preventative drainage features, pavings, water features, etc.--truly any function that is incorporated into residential garden design. This is not exclusive of commercial work. None-the-less, our major market is with the residential customer, as our projects are certainly more intimate, personal, and detailed.
