"Anthony was friendly and punctual.  He came to see the backyard the day after I called him and had his crew come the day after that.  They came to rake out the soil and plant grass seed but also took out some left over concrete and even some large branches from a tree in my yard.  I called Anthony a few times to regarding care of the lawn and he answered all my questions right away. The grass is quite full now (about 2 months later).  I absolutely recommend Anthony.

"I texted him pictures of my overgrown yard and he texted back an estimate. We soon agreed upon a date and price. Unfortunately, he did not show up on the first attempt and texted at the last minute that he was not coming and I was inconvenienced waiting for him. Luckily, it was an after-work appointment and I did not waste a precious weekend day waiting for him. I sent him an angry text expressing my disappointment. He apologized and asked for a second chance and took $50. off the price. I gave it to him. He showed up on the second chance appointment promptly, also an afternoon appointment, with helpers and all necessary tools and black contractor bags. The job went great. My yard was in awful shape. He was flexible enough to start the work early on an agreed-upon afternoon and then when I came home from work with the money, he was finishing up. He planted everything where I pointed and cleaned up everything. He also moved a small Ikea couch as well as a tall Target wardrobe cabinet in the house from a ground floor bedroom to an upstairs bedroom for me for a few extra bucks, since he had helpers to help carry. (I am a widow). I am hiring him again for Summer, 2017 work."

"Anthony was a pleasure to work with for my sod installation project. As a first time homeowner and being a newbie to landscaping, I had a lot of questions and Anthony gladly and thoroughly answered them all. He was very professional and punctual, and did a great job for my yard. I would definitely recommend him and would work with him again for future landscaping projects."

FAQs for trees & shrubs treat, protect and maintain projects in South Richmond Hill, NY

The optimal transplanting season depends on your tree species, but most trees respond best when moved during dormancy. For deciduous trees, late fall after leaf drop or early spring before bud break provides the lowest stress periods. Evergreens transplant better in early fall or late summer when soil temperatures remain warm enough for some root growth. Avoiding transplanting during active growth periods helps trees direct energy toward establishing new roots rather than supporting foliage.

While technically, trees of any size can be transplanted with the right equipment and expertise, practical considerations limit what's reasonable for most homeowners. Trees with trunk diameters under 15 inches are most commonly transplanted in residential settings. Success rates decline as trees increase in size and age, with specimens over 24 inches in diameter presenting significant challenges and costs. For large trees, carefully weigh the substantial investment against the potential benefits and survival probability.

Most transplanted trees require one to two years to fully establish in their new location, with larger specimens often needing additional time. During this establishment period, the tree regenerates roots that were inevitably lost during the move. Signs of successful establishment include normal seasonal growth patterns, healthy leaf development, and reduced dependence on supplemental watering. The quality of aftercare during this critical period significantly influences long-term survival rates.

Self-transplanting is feasible for small trees with trunk diameters under two to three inches if you have proper tools and follow correct techniques. However, medium to large trees require professional expertise and specialized equipment to ensure tree survival and property protection. While professional services cost more initially, they achieve much higher success rates and prevent potential damage to your property or the tree itself. The investment in professional services often proves worthwhile when considering the value of mature trees.
