"Early this year, I had a structural engineer at my house to assess what needed to be done to repair my retaining wall to extend its life for at least another 10 years. I took his recommendations, and then selected several contractors from AL to give estimates, one of which was Xtra Care. I met with four contractors in total. CJ, Project Manager, came right out and walked the entire length of the wall with me. This is a monster wall (for a private residence) consisting of 6x6x6 wooden posts. After meeting with CJ, I was convinced that they could do this job. I called Mari at the office and scheduled the work for the 3rd week of August, which was several months away. The fact that they were booked months in advance is obviously a good sign. I then called back the structural engineer and told him who I selected to do the work. When I mentioned Xtra Care, he said simply, "They're good...I've worked with them before." Good sign # 2. Due to the heavy rains in August, the job was pushed back a few times, which happens and is not a problem. Mari always emailed me with updates daily, and CJ always promptly replied to any calls or texts from me. Once the guys started, it was done in a few days as promised. They did exactly what we contracted for, and a little more. CJ also came back to the job to do a final walk through. The work turned out better than we could have imagined. We are very happy with the work, and the $4,750 was more than fair for what was done. And, the awesome communication was an added benefit. We would definitely hire Xtra Care in the future. "Things were going quite well until I inquired about bagging excess grass that lay on the lawn and flower beds after the job was done. I was then told that it would cost an extra $3.00 weekly to bag grass. I decided to rake up the excess instead (saving money for me). I thought the grass was being cut too low; therefore,  I then inquired about mower blade height and was told it would cost an extra $4.98 weekly to raise or lower the blade. I have been a homeowner for longer than the provider is old, have had several lawn companies attend my lawns and have never, ever, heard of such a thing....from any company.
The provider simply wrote, "If I did not charge every customer the labor to change blades or lower, or raise them I would be loosing every job. If I did not charge to bag I will be loosing with dump fees labor fees. Eventually it will add up. Please understand ." He said it would take an extra 10 minutes to adjust blades. The county waste dump is within 5 miles.
Needless to say, his services were terminated.  What started out as a $25 weekly fee would have increased to $31.92 weekly and $131.92 monthly  instead of $100 monthly per 4 weeks  had I accepted the provider's proposal.
 Mind you, clipping hedges and general lawn work was not included....just mowing. Oh, after the family mulched the flower beds, the provider's crew blew grass clippings in the beds atop the mulch. Yes, I did mention this to the provider and the blowing continued. I was simply  not satisfied. Perhaps someone else might like the additions, but not us. My neighbor, I think, uses their services and might be satisfied. I did not inquire.
