"As a homeowner it is always a challenge when it comes to filing an insurance claim. More times than not it means researching your policy to understand what your policy covers and even learning insurance terminology that we don’t necessarily hear every day. I experienced roof damage recently and rather than “patch” the damaged areas (as I had done in the past) I could see it was time to replace the roof completely. I contacted two roofers and as I expected I received two quotes for the same scope of work but with very different pricing. In short, I contacted “Good News Roofing” (Brook Vallejo). As a homeowner I expect a few things from contractors doing work for me; (1) Plain conversation (because I’m not a roofer) (2) Selection and (3) Personal commitment to see the job through to satisfactory completion. I fulfilled my insurance policy obligation and today have a beautiful, leak free, new green shingled roof (that’s what I wanted and that’s what I got). Good News Roofing was fair in their pricing, detailed in their explanation of the scope of work, stayed in contact with my claim specialist, delivered on time and completed on time. This roofing company is locally owned, dispatches friendly and knowledgeable crew members, performed a complete walk around when completed and moved their equipment and vehicles without any disruption to myself or neighbors. I strongly recommend “Good News Roofing” and that you take the time to discuss your roofing needs with Brook. She has demonstrated the things I look for in a contractor/builder. She had my trust as a homeowner soon after we had discussed my roofing needs."

"Alpha had the lowest of 3 estimates I got before hand. I had wind and hail damage and my roof was 18 years old so it needed to be replaced. They did the entire job in half a day, cleaned up thoroughly after and did a great job. They were very respectful of my property and I was very pleased with them."

"It's been a bit over a year since James repaired and resealed our roof with a rubberized coating. I wanted to wait until we had several rain storms before leaving a review. I can now say that the roof work is holding up extremely well. No leaks and no more rust stains. James worked mostly alone on our roof and did a fantastic job. Thanks so much!"

"Shane examined the problem area where multiple roof lines intersect and the original flashing and shingles in that area were inadequate. He proposed a solution in an estimate with clearly written details. Shane and his team were easy to work with. They installed newly fabricated flashing, a bitumen membrane, and new shingles. They showed up when promised and finished the job over two days, cleaning up both days. When the work was done, Shane provided photos of the roof areas that are not visible from the ground, which I appreciate having. The work looks great. I'd hire Shane again."

"We had the pleasure of working with Blake during a very stressful time trying to get our home ready to list. He came out and did a full inspection of the roof, gave us detailed notes on what needed to be repaired and went above and beyond by trimming back some tree branches that were rubbing against shingles and others that would’ve grown close quickly. Blake was friendly and professional and helped us get our gate (separate project) to the back yard rebuilt and installed within a 48 hr time frame that we needed it done by. Again, above and beyond. Would definitely recommend Driftwood based on our experiences!"

"Wilson Roofing is my go-to roofer. I have recommended them to all of my friends and they have nothing but great things to say as well. They will work with you every step of the way and ensure that your roofing problems are taken care of in a timely manner. Also, their crews do a great job of cleaning up (something many roofers lack)."

"Adjustor (Adam Graham) came out and looked and recommended I contact my insurance company. He met the insurance guy and walked the roof with him. I got a quote that worked well with my insurance to minimize costs. They came out an promptly installed a new roof. Cleaned as they worked. They made a few changes I appreciated. they put a ridge vent in over the garage and repaired gutters on the side (including ripping out an old satellite mount and putting a new section up). They could not fix the gutters right away as their contractor was busy. I did have to ping them one time, but they came out and replaced extra gutters including the most visible ones out front. Very professional and easy to work with. They left no debris (or nails!)"

"I contacted 21st Century to do a roof inspection on a house I am purchasing. They scheduled the inspection the same day, which is very valuable since I am working within a tight option period. The results of the inspection were honest and professional. The company did not "try to find something wrong" just to get business. Emily, the office professional, did a great job following up and making sure the report fulfilled requirements for insurance purposes. I could see why this company has won Angie's List service awards for many years. I will definetly use this company in the future for any roofing or painting needs."

"Very well, once this deservedly very busy business got to my job. I received a bid from Quality Roofing on February 20, 2017. Their bid was about $2000 lower than a competing bid for a SnapLok Standing Seam GalvaLum roof and about $10,000 below another bid for a fiberglass shingle roof. I accepted Quality's bid on March 1 and sent them a down-payment of about 50% of the agreed price on March 5. They began work on my roof on April 13. Work was interrupted by Easter holidays and by rain but work on the roof and gutters was completed on May 3. I paid Quality the balance due on our contract on May 4. On May 5, I discovered that my water heater had gone out. I called a service provider and determined that the heater's pilot light had been blown out because, in installing the roof, the workmen had improperly re-attached the ventilator pipe that goes from the heater through the roof. The service provider fixed the problem for a small charge, which was promptly and courteously refunded to me by Quality when I advised them of the issue. The roof itself was a relatively simple job: a single gable with an easy slope. The real challenge was dealing with a pergola at the rear of my home when installing the gutters. The prior gutter installers had extreme difficulty in figuring out how to install the gutters in a way that made sense both functionally and aesthetically. (They originally had a downspout directly onto the wood deck! I had them remove the gutters from the pergola area, which was not very satisfactory but better than what they had done.) Quality's installers found a creative, effective, and aesthetic way to install the gutters and downspouts, including fitting the gutter between the pergola and the eaves of the house in a way that amazed both me and the Quality job supervisor. All Quality employees with whom I dealt, from the salesman/estimator to the supervisor and members of the installation crew and including the administrative staff that I dealt with by telephone were courteous, professional, and friendly."

"The roof of my home and of an outbuilding, and their associated flashing, siding, and paint, were damaged in a hailstorm, and I chose Superior One to perform the repairs. On the upside, their reps were consistently courteous, punctual, and responsive to my concerns. <br /> However, Superior One was not the low bidder for the job. The price shown here shouldn't necessarily put you off, as the home in question has a number of unique features which make it more expensive to repair, regardless of the contractor. Because they came recommended by my insurance company, with which I have a long relationship, and whose opinion I trust; and because I would still be only out of pocket for a modest deductible, I chose them for the job. <br /> The larger issue is that throughout the process, I was troubled that I was consistently finding problems with the quality of their work, and by their proposed solutions to those problems, which I felt were often substandard. Now, their painting and flashing replacement were all first-rate. I say that as a long-time homeowner with fairly extensive experience with roofing and general contractors, so I'm not unfamiliar with the highlights and bumps that can happen in big home repair projects. <br /> But it simply took far more of my oversight and corrective suggestions to get to a satisfactory conclusion to the roofing and some siding repair parts of this job, than it had for other home repair projects with which I've been involved in the past, and I'm still not fully convinced that parts of that job were done 100% properly. In fact, nearly a month after the completion of the job, I'm still awaiting an inspection from the supplier of one of the main materials used in the roofing repair, without which my warranty is not in full effect. If that inspection shows the roof to have been installed correctly, I may consider revising this rating. <br /> In conclusion, if you don't mind staying intimately involved in the day-to-day details and oversight of the job, I can enthusiastically recommend Superior One. However, if you typically prefer to let contracting professionals do their jobs with less of your over-their-shoulder supervision, be aware you may need to up your game with Superior One. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Spicewood, TX

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
