"Not well. The young men who came were pleasant, but inexperienced. The job was to sweep AND inspect. They said it did not need sweeping (though we later found out it did) and they asked if we wanted an outside inspection as if it were an add-on. It was raining and I guess they did not want to get wet. They then were delayed sending us a quote and when we asked for one, it was nebulous and prohibitively expensive. Four quotes later we found a company that would do the work needed and not upsell us. We paid $250 effectively for nothing."

We are a owner operated full service remodeling and home building company servicing the Greater Miami Valley and surrounding cities. We are a small company with low overhead so we can keep our prices lower without sacrificing quality.
"I hired this company in August of 2023 to do a substantial amount of exterior work to my home. The company came out on their first day with no materials and didn't even have a ladder. I supplied them with lumber that I had for an interior project to get started on the exterior work. From August until December the company drug their feet and it was like pulling teeth just to even get them out to the home to do work. They would come out for a day or two and then be MIA for several weeks not returning calls or texts. We literally had to go to the business and catch them there to even talk to them. They finally installed 8 windows and a French door and replaced some rotted osb along with putting some tyvek on the home. March 14th 2024 the home was hit by a tornado and suffered severe structural damage to where the remainder of the work could not be performed. I met with the shop owner Tom Hughes on March 18th 2024 in his show room on state route 41 and he agreed to cash me out for the remaining balance after labor and materials. Tom told me his bank would be issuing me a check for $6,217 and that it would be sent via mail. I have screenshot documentation from Tom's personal phone number with the refund amount. He also agreed to send me an itemized break down of all work and materials that were taken out of the original $13,000 that I had given him. It has been almost a month and Tom will not respond to my texts messages or my calls. I have went to his establishment in covington on state route 41 numerous times and the doors are always locked and he has recently covered all of his windows with black tarps. Do not ever give any business or establishment associated with Thomas Hughes any money. I have made a report with the BBB and reports with local authorities. If you have an ongoing contract with this man you may as well just hang it up because he will not finish your work or give you your money back for work not performed."

Yes, many homeowners find a wood-to-gas fireplace conversion to be a worthwhile investment. A gas conversion trades messy firewood for push-button convenience, built-in safety shutoff valves, and low-maintenance operation. It also burns more cleanly and efficiently, which can trim energy costs and boost resale value—all around, a smart upgrade for most homeowners.
You don't technically need a chimney for a gas fireplace. However, if you go with the safer vented option, you need a direct vent or another venting system that draws in external air for combustion and expels the exhaust. If you have an existing chimney, you can use it as the vent as long as it's appropriately lined. Installing a chimney liner costs $630 to $7,000.
Yes, a gas fireplace will still work during a power outage. Gas fireplaces with a vertical pilot don't require electricity for the pilot flame to start. New gas fireplace models may use an intermittent pilot ignition system. These types of fireplaces often need a power supply to light, but most have a backup system in case of a power outage.
Absolutely—if no gas line runs near your fireplace, a licensed plumber or gas fitter can extend service for $260 to $820, with most homeowners spending an average of $540. Costs rise if your home lacks a main gas line, but professional installation guarantees leak-free connections, code compliance, and safe operation—critical when you’re dealing with combustible fuel.
No, electric fireplaces can’t be retrofitted for gas because they lack the venting, combustion chamber, and safety components needed for a gas flame. Switching to gas means removing the electric unit and installing an entirely new fireplace, vent, and gas line—an extensive project that often costs more than starting fresh with a purpose-built gas model.
Yes, gas fireplaces are a more eco-friendly option. Compared with a wood-burning unit, a natural gas fireplace releases roughly half to two-thirds the CO2 per unit of heat and far fewer particulates. That cleaner burn means better indoor air quality, less creosote buildup, and higher overall efficiency—benefits for both your home and the environment.
