But to get to the wall they had to take down an 100 foot vinyl fence. Besides that, my neighbors shed is 3 inches from my property line. They could not bring in any machinery. They dug everything by hand. I was amazed how well they worked together. It really was like an assembly line. They worked fast and good. It took them only 3 1/2 days to finish the project. They said that the labor charge would be $285 an hour. We had a hot water heater installed 15 years ago by another company. It took them 2 1/2 hours and they charged $112.50 an hour. I thought that Roto-Rooter's labor charge was a little high so I called three companies several days after Roto-Rooter installed our new water heater. One company said that they charge $228 an hour for weekend and holiday service and it takes them about 2-3 hours to install a water heater. Another compamy said that the minimum charge would be $1500-$1800 to install a new water heater. The third company said that they would charge $1,260 to install a water heater. Our water heater died at a most inopportune time. Our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren were visiting us. We all needed to take a shower and we needed to run the dishwasher. "Initial rep was great and informative. Felt comfortable with initial sale. Hardly had any contact from customer service except for the payments. There were several delays that we were not informed about unless we called to ask. Took 7 months before they showed up to begin project. Only 1 person was sent to build steps. Took a week. Hard worked, hardly took a break. Had to call again to see when they would come to pour patio. Never knew when they were coming, they just showed up. Hardly spoke with the homeowners. Inspection paperwork was just left on porch. Additional paperwork that is "required by the County" had to be completed by homeowner and taken to Court house to be notarized and filed and also provide a copy back to Long Fence. Time sensitive materials which added to homeowners to-do list. Gave this contract to LF on the surface of their history and appearance of a 'good local company' but should have stayed with original contactors in VA. Puddle of water forms when it rains"
