Zavala's floors can provide a large selection of Un-finished floors: RED OAK, WHITE OAK, BRAZILIAN CHERRY, AMERICAN CHERRY, WALNUT MAPLE AND PARQUET. Un-finished flooring comes in grades, which simply means the appearance of the wood, not the quality of the wood, the wood is what it is, but it comes in 3 grades as to color variations, veining knots, etc.... ie: select and better - clearest grade with the least of color variation, veining and knots #1 common - has a little more color variation, veining and knots #2 common - has even more color variation, veining and knots Unfinished flooring starts a 2 1/4 wide x 3/4 thick and goes up in width from from there, usually to 3", 4", 5", 6", and 7" generally they do not come wider then a 7". Zavala's floor can also provide a large selection of Pre-finished floors: BRUCE, IMPRESSIONS, SOMERSET, BOEN AND ZICKGRAF HARDWOOD FLOORS TOP COATING ARE NOT ALL THE SAME Oil base or Water base. Oil base is a more long lasting finish. Todayone Water base finish stands out: Bona "Street Shoe" water base is our preferred, Commercial grade water base. OIL BASE POLYURETHANE: Satin, Semi-gloss and Hi-gloss Dry time 8-12 hours. This varies with weather and job site conditions. Combustible when wet Ambers/yellows with aging Requires minimum of 2 Coats WATER BASE FINISH: Satin, Semi-gloss, and Hi-gloss Minimal odor Dry time - 3 - 4 hours Environmentally safe Non-combustible Dries clear and does not change color over time Requires minimum of 3 Coats Zavala Floors Contractors Inc. is a small family-operated company and located in Montgomery County, MD. "Mr Zavala was hired to replace the existing heart pine flooring with a new subfloor and hardwood flooring. After a couple of weeks he still had not finished removing the old flooring. After applying some pressure to get the job, he proceeded to install the subfloor on the second floor in a shoddy manner, leaving us with an uneven subfloor. He also installed the subfloor with improper nails (smooth shank) when he should have used screws or at least ring shank. In addition, there were spots where he removed the old flooring (which functions as a subfloor in old houses) underneath a partition wall, causing the partition wall to sag. At that point we lost confidence in him and fired him. Unfortunately, we had paid him half the money at the start of the job and he only completed about 1/4 of it (badly). We subsequently got estimates from other contractors who told us he had installed the subfloor incorrectly, cutting the panels too small and not using the built in grooves to align the panels. Furthermore, they informed us that it is standard professional practice to inform the owner of the value of their existing flooring, which was long-leaf heart pine. We should have been compensated for this removed material which has considerable salvage value. So it it clear that he was taking his sweet time to remove the old heart pine so that he could maximize its value to him. Furthermore, a $1000 bicycle went missing while he was working in the house, which I suspect was taken by one of his workers. Needless to say, hire this guy at your own risk."
