"What a tremendous experience with a tremendous company! We needed a new roof but wanted to wait until this spring to have it installed. We had seen a BUCCOs truck in a nearby street and decided to check them out! All it took was one phone call to realize that this was a truly first class company-- PROFESSIONAL in all caps deserved! Everyone we encountered our Buccos Roofing experience shined in their gargantuan efforts to make sure that we were pleased! Amazing Sam Felicetti worked tirelessly with us to help us select exactly what we needed to protect and enhance our home. He listened to our life plans and helped us determine what improvements to make and which were unnecessary. He mailed a true sized shingle sample to us when we had trouble determining roofing color. Mike Davidson, our outstanding project manager, continued to astound us as he made sure we received lots of helpful information on what to expect and how best to prepare. Any question or concern was immediately addressed. Even on weekends! WHO does that?! Our install date was right on schedule! The crew of installers were expert, hard working and polite. When our bay window roof portions proved tricky, Mike decided to bring in a specialty team to complete that part of the installation. The roof & new skylight look great! This company cared for our home and property as if it were their own. Not a single hitch-- not a single negative. How often does that happen?! WOW!"

"All work was done professionally and on schedule. The cathedral ceiling no longer "leaks". A small leak occurred in 2017. Burns & Scalo inspected the roof and repaired some damaged shingles and sealed a pipe flange. Both repairs were in a section of roof not part of the original project. They charged $220 for two men to come out and spend about an hour."

"Sometimes a person gets lucky in life and my wife and I feel that way about meeting Chaz Knox of Knox's Construction. There are approximately 62 contractors in the area that do roofing and choosing just one is a "best guess" task for the most part. I met Chaz because he was the only contractor that would come to the house and repair a couple of gutter leaks. The five I called previously all said they only replace roofs and gutters, not repair. Their loss..... Anyway, we had just purchased an 18 year old house and knew the roof would need replaced in the very near future. When Chaz came to repair the gutters I asked him if he would mind looking at a few areas that had caught my eye as possible problem areas. He showed me ripped shingles, shingles that were not properly adhering to the roof, flashing areas that were possible water intrusion threats and the overall deteriorating conditions of all the shingles. He informed me that the roof probably had a year or two left on it, but it would need replaced sooner than later. He did not put on a "hard sell" or make me nervous about the roof, he just told me how it was. I appreciated his candor and as such, I asked him to provide me an estimate. Amazingly enough he was able to give me an almost immediate estimate because he uses a space satellite service that can measure your roof and provide the contractor with all the data required to make an educated estimate. He gave me the $$ number and told me, "This includes 5* rated shingles, new seamless gutters, new fascia, new drip edges and new downspouts....to be honest, he had me at the shingles price because it was less than I had guesstimated...the gutters, etc. were icing on the cake!! Because the price was what I considered very fair we also opted for the gutter protectors. All the above happened in November, 2016 and Chaz told me the work would begin in the spring of 2017. I received a contract, signed it, and waited for spring. Chaz contacted me in January and February to let me know all was still on schedule and then we started coordinating actual install in March. Our roof is a bear due to all the valleys, hips, ridges, gables, 310 feet of gutter, a chimney and two separate, small roofed sections for porches. It took a five man team six days to complete the entire project. The team: One foreman and four guys of varying skills. Five guys that have been well trained in the art of roof installation and how to work well together. Each of them knew their role and responsibility and did not skip a beat. It was impressive to watch them. They were also extremely well mannered and respectful...gotta love that!! In a nutshell, they showed up on time, the foreman told me what would be done on that particular day, they did not dilly-dally around and they did their jobs efficiently and well. At the end of each day they completely cleaned up their mess and ran a large magnet on wheels completely around the house to pick up loose nails from the removal and installation of shingles....let me reiterate "they were very efficient". We purchased Certainteed Pro shingles and because Chaz is a Select Shingle Master and his install team are properly trained we received the highest warranty available (5 Star). Now the important part...the roof looks incredible and the new fascia, gutters and downspouts just pull everything together!! Even the neighbors are commenting and lauding everything. It completely transformed the look of our house....it's a very rich look and adds immensely to the curb appeal of our house. We're loving it!! So....I'm sure there are other reputable contractors out there, but they are not a dime-a-dozen as I learned trying to find one that would repair my gutter leaks. Should you be in the market for a roof I highly recommend Knox's Construction. As the beginning of this review stated "Sometimes a person gets lucky in life....""

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Washington, PA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
