"I don’t write recommendations, but I highly recommend John McClung Roofing. Early in my career I was a carpenter, then a renovation contractor, so I’ve put on maybe 5 roofs with my own crew. Although that was a few decades back, I know what good construction work is. I don’t know much about insurance. I contacted JMR when I had wind damage to my roof. They were recommended to me by a friend whose values I respect. Their sales presentation was much better than the second contractor I asked for a bid from – they listened to what I wanted, provided fact based answers, followed through with things like documentation of their insurance coverage and met the schedule they laid out in our initial meeting. Once the work began, the crew was almost entirely Spanish speaking, which caused some confusion at one point. The crew also used no safety equipment, which I didn’t think to ask about in advance. Those were the only 2 quibbles I had with the crew or work. The actual roof work (47 square of composite) was excellent, very professionally done, quickly, cleanly and with consideration for the impact it had on our daily routine. But there was one thing JMR did that was waaaay above and beyond what I expected and what I likely would have gotten from any other contractor. After JMR had been paid in full – which meant there was nothing more they could get from me except for this recommendation – they contacted my insurance claims adjustor and took rigorous exception to the roof area measurements the insurance company had based the amount the insurance company would reimburse me for. JMR’s own estimate and on the job measurements showed the insurance company would short me by almost 10%. They demanded the insurance company gross up the reimbursement amount. And by golly, the insurance company did. Instead of costing me anything at all, JMR’s advocacy put money in my pocket by the time the final insurance payment was deposited in my account. Thank you, JMR!"

"Recently, Southern National reached out to me and informed that my roof might need to be replaced. I setup an initial estimate, and was given a well informed breakdown and cost of what needed to be done with my roof. Brandon Blasko walked me through the whole process that Southern National had to offer, he was able to answer any question I had and was able to breakdown what the roof should cost and all the components the roof. After we talked, I was able schedule quickly. The crew arrived on time and was able to finish the roof in one day. The crew even cleaned and scanned the yard for any nails or debris. I love the new roof and I would recommend Southern National to all my friends and family."

"Jimmy came. Was on my roof 25 minutes tops. No caulking, no repair, just pulling out debris which he put in bags I provided then left me with them. For $175. The math speaks for itself. That's over $5 per minute. No thanks."

"They were to arrive between 8:30 and 9 AM.  They were on time.  Larry introduced himself and his helper Francisco.  I showed him the problem and they immediately went to work to make the repair.  After they were done they inspected the rest of the roof to see if there were any other problems.   They worked neatly and efficiently and were done by 9 AM.  Larry took the time to show me what the problem was that caused the failure.  He then identified the manufacturer and color of the shingles and suggested that in the future, if we have problems that we give that information to the roofer making the repair so they can bring the proper shingles with them.  Larry was obviously experienced and knowledgeable.  I watched Francisco make the repairs and he was careful and thorough.  I highly recommend them and will call them first for my roofing needs. <br />"

"Excellently. Most roofers ignored my calls and did not return voicemails. Mad Roofer answered my call the first time and was as punctual and professional the entire time they were repairing my leak. Moreover, the quality of the work was outstanding. I will be calling them for any repair or replacement need from now on."

"Craig called me quickly after my request for service and was out at my house within 3 hours to address the hole I found in my roof. He repaired the hole then gave a great quote on a new metal roof at my request. Definitely recommend."

"John and his crew showed up to give me an estimate, which came in significantly under the other “giant roofing companies”. I ended up using his services and couldn’t be happier; the roof came out better then I could have imagined and the owner gave me all of his personal info in case an issues arise (which he assured me they wouldn’t). Great business, professional and punctual. So great that we made plans for him and his crew to come down my bathroom in 5 months. Use this business!"

"MR. PRICE ARRIVED AT APPROX THE TIME HE SAID HE WOULD. I SHOWED HIM THE SUSPECTED AREA(BOTH OUTSIDE) AND INSIDE FROM THE ATTIC. HE HAD A CONTRACT DRAWN UP, WHICH EXPLAINED WHAT HE WOULD DO AND GAVE ME ALSO A WRITTEN WARRANTY ON HIS WORK, GOOD FOR THIRTY DAYS. A FEW DAYS LATER WE HAD A HARD RAIN STORM AND THE ROOF LEAKED. I CALLED MR PRICE AND HE WAS HERE THE NEXT DAY. I SHOWED HIM WHERE IT HAD COME THRU THE ROOF. HE IMMEDIATLEY WENT UP ON THE ROOF AND DID SOME MORE CALKING, AND TOLD ME THAT IF I HAD ANY MORE LEAKS TO BE SURE AND CALL HIM. I APPRECIATED HAVING THE CONTRACT AND THE WRITTEN WARRANTY. HIS COURTESY AND HIS HONESTY. I THOUGHT THAT $250.00 WAS HIGH FOR A SERVICE CALL BUT DID NOT ARGUE THE POINT. I WANTED THE PROBLEM FIXED AND I BELIEVE HIM TO BE COMPETENT."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Waynesville, NC

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
