"There were some truck mechanical issues that prevented the originally scheduled appointment. Unfourtunately, much of a Saturday was lost chasing this person for when he would arrive. Numerous contacts I grew increasingly frustrated. I contacted the office and they said this was unsatisfactory. The owner showed up to complete the work the following Saturday. The owner and his son did a very good job trimming the trees. The one that was too close to the chimney was the primary focus. They also helped to reshape many other trees without any additional cost. They wanted to make sure I was satisfied based on what happened before!!"

"We had tree removal and trimming done by Six Stars. Our yard has never looked better! They did everything we agreed on and more, leaving our yard looking like a million bucks. From Maggie's attentive and professional communication to Hugo's excellent customer service in quoting the job and supervising the entire operation, this crew was just the best. We highly recommend Six Stars and will be using them again for future projects!"

"Kevin and his father did a fabulous job! We needed to have our trees trimmed, weeds removed, and hedge cut/removed. They both worked efficiently, completing each task required, were courteous and professional. Very easy to talk to and very pleasant to work with. Additionally, they cleaned up the area spotlessly and hauled away all the debris. We would definitely use them again."

"Knoll representative arrived promptly at appointed time for our first meeting and complete survey of back yard patio area w/existing structures was done, including photos.  Second meeting (Knoll representative again arrived at appointed time) consisted of proposed scope of work including drawing; Knoll representative listened to our ideas on what we'd like to have included in the scope of work.  Third meeting (Knoll representative arrived a bit late due to unexpected traffic congestion due to roadway construction) was held on 05/17/2013 to finalize proposed work plan which included a new drawing incorporating the things we'd ask for...he really listened to what we wanted and how we wanted to use the space.  Work on project has not been started yet; downpayment on project was made on May 17, 2013.  Will provide additional details when project is completed.

FAQs for trees & shrubs treat, protect and maintain projects in West Chicago, IL

The optimal transplanting season depends on your tree species, but most trees respond best when moved during dormancy. For deciduous trees, late fall after leaf drop or early spring before bud break provides the lowest stress periods. Evergreens transplant better in early fall or late summer when soil temperatures remain warm enough for some root growth. Avoiding transplanting during active growth periods helps trees direct energy toward establishing new roots rather than supporting foliage.

While technically, trees of any size can be transplanted with the right equipment and expertise, practical considerations limit what's reasonable for most homeowners. Trees with trunk diameters under 15 inches are most commonly transplanted in residential settings. Success rates decline as trees increase in size and age, with specimens over 24 inches in diameter presenting significant challenges and costs. For large trees, carefully weigh the substantial investment against the potential benefits and survival probability.

Most transplanted trees require one to two years to fully establish in their new location, with larger specimens often needing additional time. During this establishment period, the tree regenerates roots that were inevitably lost during the move. Signs of successful establishment include normal seasonal growth patterns, healthy leaf development, and reduced dependence on supplemental watering. The quality of aftercare during this critical period significantly influences long-term survival rates.

Self-transplanting is feasible for small trees with trunk diameters under two to three inches if you have proper tools and follow correct techniques. However, medium to large trees require professional expertise and specialized equipment to ensure tree survival and property protection. While professional services cost more initially, they achieve much higher success rates and prevent potential damage to your property or the tree itself. The investment in professional services often proves worthwhile when considering the value of mature trees.
