"I was not at home when Steve showed up to inspect the house. We coordinated via the phone and text messages. Steve climbed my roof and sent pictures of the issues he found. All the issues he found were minor and he fixed them as he found them. I asked him the charge and he said there wasn't any charge since it was so minor. He did find a problem with the chimney. There is a hole in the frame and he told me up front he could not fix it, but gave me the number of someone who could. I am very impressed by Steve's professionalism and no pressure attitude. When my roof does need replacing I will be giving the work to him."

"Moss Home Improvements did a wonderful job!  Bev kept us up to date on when the repairs would be made.  Weather is a problem this time of year.  George stopped by to check up on the progress and make sure we knew exactly what to tell the gutter installation crew on the placement of the extra down spouts. They cleaned up all litter made in the installation process. <br /> I am so very happy I found Moss Home Improvements on Angie's List!!!"

"Before the job was sold the sales team headed by Mike Hawkins were very professional, courteous but right after the signed contact job was delayed due to their internal department mixup. I was not communicated of any delay and had to call numerous people to get the response. During the whole process they worked with my insurance company and finished the work on time and the roof looked great. Right after job was completed I noticed my porch gutter leaking at the joint. It was a new leak which I thought would be the result of shingles being thrown while install. After sending video of the leak to the sales, install and customer service I didn’t get any response then finally I complained to their General Manger Grant and he came to inspect the leaking gutter and said the age of the gutter may be the cause of the leak but he will get it caulked. It has been more than a week, email and text message to their General Manager Grant has still not fixed the leaking gutter. Roof replacement was a good job but if there is any problem later on with their work I will not depend on their warranty commitment. I will not recommend them to others for their after sales service commitment."

"It went very well. Prompt response to get a detailed, outlined free estimate. Crew showed up on date and time agreed upon. Roofing done in approximately 12 hours on house and attached garage, a separate two car garage, and a roof on a swing frame. New cream colored 6 in. continuous gutter installed. New gutter boards and sheeting as needed. Quality materials used. New roofing felt, and 30 years shingles. Chimney was sealed and a rubber boot put around an electrical post on the roof. Thorough clean up after jobs completed. It all looks very nice and I am pleased. My brother was so impressed with the work that he hired CRP to do a roof on a log cabin for him. I found the contractor, Rob Foster, easy to communicate with. An experienced, reliable, dependable, honest, hard working man with a skilled crew of workers."

"Sheward Roofing worked with my insurance company to make sure the work was done to their specifications. The crew was efficient and clean. The owners are heavily involved with their company and respond to questions and concerns themselves. They also spent time on the job overseeing and came by to make sure the final clean up was done well. Roof looks great and I would recommend their services."

"This is the third project we have done with Universal. They previously replaced a skylight and did some work on our front porch and those jobs went so well it was only natural that we would go with them for our major roof work. Rob worked with our insurance company and was very transparent through the entire process. When it was time for our project to start, we were given a start date ahead of time and a crew began work when they said they would. The work done was beautiful, and we could not be happier. Everyone on site communicated effectively and often with us, were respectful of my house, and cleaned up well when the project was over. I would highly recommend Universal. Now that I have a long term, water tight roof, I know I won’t need them up there again but I will certainly call them first for any future projects!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Whitestown, IN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
