Subsequently, I had another electrician come and he said there was no need for a new panel, since it was GE (reliable brand who still sold replacement parts) and we were having no problems. Erwin also said the house needed to be grounded. That would cost $900 (or $990 - not sure). I said that someone had already grounded the large appliances. I showed him the grounding line outside. He then said the wire/cord they used was not up to the current standard. But the city inspector had approved it (within the past two years). So, their suggestions that I have higher priced jobs ( new panel and grounding) that were not really necessary made me hesitate to work with them for the simpler jobs I had called them out to price."
