"I met with Vince in the late summer to discuss a project that I wanted done prior to the fall. I wanted a retaining wall, some brick-paver patios, and a brick staircase done for my landscaping project. Additionally, I'd need some dirt brought in and moved around. We discussed timing, and pricing. They were competitively priced, and I could tell that they were the type of people that I wanted to work with. They were very busy that summer, but they kept me informed as to when they would be able to get to my project. Rain delayed the project longer than I would have liked - but I'm sure that's the case for all landscapers. They put in extra hours on Saturdays once the weather cooperated. After they thought the job was done, we discussed to ensure it met my needs. I had some specific things that I wanted done (size of the wall, etc.), and they kept coming back until I was satisfied. They did everything in their power to make me happy. They said they'd never had an unsatisfied customer, and that streak continues. They made sure I was happy, and went the extra mile to ensure it. Feel confident in giving them a call. Make sure they know your expectations, and they'll get the job done (and keep on working until you are happy)."

"I've never seen it not happen - contract a repair or upgrade job and during the preparation stage of removing the old stuff, unknown problems crop up that require a change in what needs to be done to accomplish the repair or upgrade. Sure enough, additional old concrete had to be removed to get the job done right. SPECK showed me the problem immediately when they found it and their solution was more than fair to my pocketbook and satisfaction. VERY GOOD working with this company as contractors and as well as WONDERFUL work crew on site. Love these people."

"We are wanting to finish our basement. We were gathering quotes. He was very thorough. Explained everything. Explained his bid. We were very satisfied with his presentation. It was a free quote. I like that he was thorough and explained everything. He took time to look at what he had and addressed our concerns and needs. The one thing that turned us both off was he is proud of his almost million dollar home, the fact that he can afford that it is going to be a five million dollar home just did not ring true with us. The price was more than we had anticipated but all the quotes that we obtained were more than we had anticipated."

"Mike and his crew came as promised. Their work was beyond my expectations. They were professional, friendly, and responsive to my questions and concerns. The only reason I gave a B for price is it cost more than the estimate primarily due to the price of the cedar went up. Also, once the old floor boards were removed we discovered the foundation boards were rotting. Mike immediately got the supplies and replaced the foundation. Did a great job building new steps. Nice job cleaning up. I have contracted Mike and his crew to replace broken tiles on my house and to paint the house, window frames and trim."

"<p>First we started with 6 contractors coming out to give us bids.  Veldkamp construction was the only one to address the issue of a support beam in the attic if we take out the bearing wall.  We chose Veldkamp. He brought out his subs to look over the site before he gave his bid so it was accurate. Once we started he kept us updated every day so we knew what was going to happen the next day or so.  The subs came in and started working.  We had a couple of small problems such as small leak in the roof where they took out a vent from the old kitchen.  It rained and leaked. They were out that night to fix the roof, in the rain.  the kitchen cabinets were ordered and arrive right on schedule.  The  plumber and electrian had everything ready to go well before the cabinets arrived.  The subs built 2 walls to support the roof while the got ready to install the support beam into the attic.  That an extra day to install due to the original construction of our house.  They did a great job of installing the dry wall and matching the ceiling texture.  My husband and I can tell were the old seams are but also know where they are.  no one else can tell.  the fireplace company was in and out doing their part.  We did have them come back and make a change but that was done with out any incident.  They also build a new laundry room in out garage so we also had to flip out garage doors around which was done quickly and the siding looks great.  The laundry room works great.  We also had veldkamp construction reuse our existing patio door and windows.  All the other constractors didn't want to move out large 104 inch by 54 inch bay window.  Veldkamp </p> took out the window and raised it so it would work great in the new kitchen.  They never left out house open to the outside over night.  We finally finished the project in Sept due the counter tops taking so long.  It all looks great and out friends and family all are amazed out our new house <br />"

FAQs for interlocking pavers for patios, walks & steps installation projects in Winterset, IA

To calculate your paver needs:

  • Determine how many pavers cover a square foot.

  • Determine how many square feet you need.

  • Add an additional 10% to 20% for breakage and waste.

  • Consider your pavers’ sizes.

Or, you can hire a local pro who you know will get the right measurements the first time. This way, you get your weekend back instead of spending it measuring square footage.

A pallet of pavers costs $300 to $700 on average, and each pallet covers 56 square feet. The exact price depends on the type, size, and quantity of pavers you choose. Buying in bulk can sometimes offer additional savings, especially for larger projects. Ask your pro how you can save on material costs.

To get the best prices on pavers:

  • Hire a professional landscaper: Pros often receive discounts on materials, which can make hiring them more cost-effective overall.

  • Shop at local building supply stores: Check for overstock or bulk purchase deals. Bulk purchasing can be more costly up front but save you money in the long run.

  • Buy directly from manufacturers: Purchasing from a local brickyard or paver factory can offer competitive prices, especially for large quantities.

The main difference between driveway pavers and patio pavers is their load-bearing capacity. Driveway pavers are designed to withstand the weight of vehicles, whereas patio pavers aren’t suitable for such heavy loads. You can use driveway pavers for a patio, but using patio pavers for a driveway could lead to damage. Always check the weight limits of pavers and consult with a professional installer to choose the right type for your project.

Paver patios cost more than concrete patios because the materials and installation methods require advanced techniques and skilled labor. They deliver enhanced aesthetic appeal and allow for easier small‑scale repairs without affecting property taxes. The higher expense arises from premium paver materials and intricate installation processes that deliver long‑lasting durability and design flexibility. This robust solution provides notable benefits over concrete alternatives, making it a valuable investment for homeowners.
