"Homeowner beware. This company tried to overcharge me by 33%. I asked the billing person to double check the final invoice and/or at least explain it to me over the span of many weeks, which they flat out refused to do. The invoice ultimately got sorted out and this person claimed it was a mistake, but the fact they spent weeks refusing to double check that the invoice matched the work completed is very frustrating. Especially when it was such a large mistake. If you hire this company make sure they don't try to charge you more than you are supposed to pay!"

"I bought two ProVia storm doors from Hoffman Weber, to be installed at a cost of just over $5000.00 for the pair. It’s an astronomical amount, but according to reviews, these were supposedly the best doors out there. I waited seven weeks for the doors to be delivered. My front door is acceptable as installed and works well, although the added “Art Glass” design looks pretty cheesy, as if I had added it to the pane of glass myself with a plastic paint pen, instead of having the decoration “professionally” applied. Hoffman Weber had no actual photos of the “art glass” decorations. I chose the design from line drawings only. On the other hand, the second door that I ordered is completely unacceptable, and I will be replacing it with a different door from a different company. The chief requirement for this door was that it be able to accommodate a pet door. I had lengthy discussions with the sales staff before agreeing to order the ProVia door, and I was assured that they could deliver what I needed. The first door delivered was a half-light door, although I was told that a custom ¾-light door would be sent with a pet door already installed. The door was sent back, seven weeks after it had been ordered. When Hoffman Weber contacted me with a new spec for reordering the door, I was told that ProVia could NOT provide what I asked for. At the time, I agreed to order a 3/4-light door without a pet door, and install an after market pet door myself. I waited another seven weeks for the replacement door to come in. However, when it arrived, it became apparent that this second door is completely unsuitable for installing a pet door. While it's called a 3/4 light door, it's actually more like a 7/8 light door, with the bottom panel being much too small to fit a pet door of any size. I asked before ordering this door what the dimensions of the bottom panel would be, stating that I’d need at least 16” of panel in which to put the pet door. I never received any response to my inquiry. The door was ordered in standard dimensions. It will not work for its intended purpose and will need to be replaced yet again. In addition, the window slide on the replacement door arrived broken, with a six inch strap of sharp, heavy metal protruding from the frame when the window was raised. After weeks of inquiries, ProVia eventually sent someone to fix the defect, but in the process of replacing the slide, made several cuts in the door frame. The door is back together and the window now slides up and down, but the structural integrity of the door has been compromised. The door also arrived with several nicks and scratches already present in the exterior paint, and with the wrong lock on the handleset. I communicated all this to my contact at Hoffman Weber, and have yet to have my concerns addressed. It has been nearly five months since I put in the original order, and I still do not have a back door that works for me. While I have paid off the balance of my contract, I am extremely unhappy with the service and the product that I have received."

"Don't use if you want windows installed in a timely manner. They were great until after we signed the contract and made the down payment. We encountered numerous delays in having the windows installed due to several occurrences of windows breaking. We paid the down payment on 6/23/25 and were told the timing would be about 6 weeks. The windows were initially installed 9/29/25, 13 weeks after we made the down payment. During the installation one of the panes of glass broke. The installer said it would be repaired "in a couple weeks". The repair happened around 1/8/26. That was 14 weeks later. Not great having a cracked window pane in the winter months. Throughout the process we had difficulty in getting the installer to respond to requests for updates on timing."

"Fabulous! I would hire Ron again in a heartbeat. His pricing was extremely fair. He arrived for both the inspection and the installation exactly at the time he quoted. His work was completed professionally and to a very high standard of expertise. Ron was able to install our new windows within two weeks of the time we hired him. Ron is a great guy."

"After 20+ years of service, the roofing and associated appurtenances on our townhomes were showing signs of deterioration due to extreme weather and normal aging. As a result, the association board deemed it advisable to replace the roofs as soon as possible. After an exhaustive bid review and interview process with several roofing contractors, the HOA Board selected First Choice Exteriors as the successful contractor based upon: • Their extensive experience with large roofing projects, and townhome associations, • Their overall industry knowledge and experience, • Perceived provider quality as verified from reference testimonials, • Proposal quality and lowest “evaluated” cost, • Their perceived ability to deliver on all aspects of the project, • Their Availability/schedule, and finally, • Their flexibility/reliability as verified from reference testimonials. The scope of the project awarded to First Choice Exteriors included replacement of the roofing materials and roof appurtenances for the properties 15 buildings (68 total units), replacement of weather damaged windows and/or patio doors associated with 34 different units on the property, replacement of 38 skylights, and finally, the removal and replacement of the gutter systems. The committed schedule was approximately 4 weeks subject to favorable weather conditions. It is not an overstatement to say that the Board and the homeowners were impressed with the way the project was executed. From the very start, the First Choice staff was extremely well organized, sensitive to the homeowners’ needs, and fully engaged. There were 3 full time project managers on site managing the workers and interfacing with the workers and homeowners as necessary to address all construction issues and homeowner access/egress during construction. Dave Mack, Alex Pedersen, and Preston Willier, our 3 Project Managers, were seasoned and knowledgeable resources with excellent communication skills truly facilitating the conduct of work and communication with the homeowners. The crews performing the actual roof replacement were on the job from approximately 6:30am each morning (weather permitting) and worked tirelessly until after 7:00pm to keep the job on schedule despite a few weather related delays. During the bid process, bid solicitors are often promised “everything” to garner the contract. I can honestly say First Choice met all of the selling points they identified to sell the Board on their award. The quality of the work performed and attention to detail was beyond reproach, the crew cleaned up the grounds each and every evening before leaving the jobsite(including magnet sweeps of affected landscaping, walkways and driveways for nails), the project and homeowners were well managed by the site managers, schedules were achieved, and First Choice’s co-owners, Mark Willier and Mike McCain were fully engaged on the project, visiting the job site regularly to communicate with the Board and review project progress. In summary, First Choice Exteriors has demonstrated that they are a very qualified supplier, completing every aspect of our roof replacement project in a competent, and quality/customer centric manner, and I would recommend use of this organization without reservation for any of the services they offer. Thomas Vogel Vice President, HOA"

"Trinity was great to work with! They guided me throughout the whole process of getting a new roof on my house and garage, and covered by insurance! From the time I signed my paperwork, I had a beautiful new roof within the month. Kevin came over multiple times to talk about my options and everyone I spoke with at the company was helpful and easy to work with."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Winthrop, MN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
