"The inspector Evan was very professional. He took his time to check all areas of the home including a drone viewing of the roof and exterior. Great job and will hire again in the future if needed."

"My wife and I were very pleased with Chase Roofing. Mike, the sales person, came out and explained all available options. I had already did some research and had decided to go with GAF products. I knew that Chase was a GAF Master Elite contractor and I can see why now. We decided on the roofing products (HDZ Architectural Shingles) and a date was set for replacement. The roof crew started a little before 7:30 and were done by 6 pm after a very good clean-up of my property. The 7-man crew worked professionally and did not seem hurried. I like professionals that take their time. The onsite foreman happily and patiently answered all my questions throughout the day (I had taken the day off so I walked outside every hour to get an update). I had some damaged wood and he explained how it probably happened and how the current install would protect against that type of damage. Bill, the inspector, came out during the install and then came out the day after completion to go over the install with me. He answered my questions and I felt that he really wanted to make sure i was happy with the work...I was. My roof looks great. I would definitely use Chase Roofing in the future. The total price may seem a bit high but for the quality of materials and workmanship, it is definitely worth it. As reference, I have a 1400 sq ft rancher. Check your insurance; my company covered a prorated portion of my replacement which surprised me because my original roof was a 26 year old 3-tabber."

"Miguel and Carolina did great on this rather large project. They were conscientious, thorough, and easy to work with. They took pains to move and protect the side of the house, the boat, grill, deck furniture, and other items we didn't want to be coated. We will definitely use GV Solutions for future jobs and highly recommend them."

"There were no additional fees to the $669 Big Deal. The only thing is that when I purchased it, I wish I had done my homework and I would not have gone with that company. The thing that I sort of did not like was the fact that I had the Angie’s List little booklet that comes out every month or so. I was going through it and I saw that Angie’s List members got a discount. When I was talking to the rep that came out, he asked me if I was an Angie’s List member and we talked about it and I said yes. Because he had such an outgoing personality, I failed to zero in on the discount and neither did he. I just felt that he could have. So, I paid a little more because I did not get my discount. I did not feel that that was an oversight. I felt that was purposely done. When I had them called about my house, the square-footage of my house and I have an extension for sunroom, I ended up paying additional for the roofing on the sunroom because he asked me if I was going to include that and I said yes. He said that it was going to cost this amount. After I signed the paper, I went back and look and that should have been included in the square-footage because that did not exceed the square-footage of my house. So, I just felt all-the-way-around that I was deceived. The job was okay, but I would not use that company again. From the time we spoke to the time they said they would have the job done, they were here on-time."

"Excellent. We have used Phil for years. Shamus his lead supervisor can be depended on to go beyond the obvious issue and finds the systemic problem that needs repair. The Florida room had a water leak but Shamus identified a vent stack problem were the flashing was letting water enter with roof damage and water entering the Florida room ceiling with a water leak. This is not the first time Shamus has done this and in some cases, the fixes are just preventative maintenance."

"RA Woodall and Son did a great job; their estimate was reasonable, they had a quick response time to questions, the work was done as scheduled, and the crew were polite and cleaned up after project completion. The new roof does wonders for the curb appeal of our house."

"Very pleased. Job went smoothly. Chuck did the estimate. Kevin and James did the work. Prompt. Very professional. I thought the cost was reasonable. Because the light diffuser was towards the front of the house and I wanted the roof penetration on the backside of the house, they made an S-curve in the tunnel in the attic. To further complicate the S-curve challenge, the roof penetration was over the furnace return air box plenum. Kevin and James did a great job in assembling the tunnel sections to fit in a relatively tight space."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Yorktown, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
