"It went very well. Mike was very knowledgeable. He cleared the line and installed a valve that would keep the problem from occurring again. This was after another plumbing firm had given us an estimate for over $800 while Mike fixed the problem and made an improvement for $275. We highly recommend Servant Plumbing."

"AJ did a great job installing the Tankless Water heater, but also the installation and adjusting all of the circulation system to give us ready hot water at every faucet. I will call him first for anything to do with plumbing."

"We had Palmetto Renovations renovate or kitchen and it came out beautifully! Their 3D rendering services are great as they help to visualize the project and determine finishes. Needless to say, we have bathrooms we need updated and we will be hiring them in the coming months - project planning is already underway. As a bonus: this group takes communication serious and we never went a day with wondering what all got done or what was coming next. Give these guys a try and be amazed!"

"I needed a few leaky faucets repaired, a shower valve cartridge replaced, and a toilet assembly replaced. Bernie Dreher did all of it quickly, neatly, and for great prices. When the toilet assembly involved more than he thought and he had to come back to do more with it, he did so at no extra charge. Exceptional, old school service. A great value."

"The two Freedom Plumbing plumbers that came to do the job were phenomenal and a great choice for our project. They were very professional and quite polite. I must thank them immensely. This was an all day project from 9-5 for this installation that turned out to be a bigger job because the vent size needed to be increased from the garage, through the attic and up to the roof, on a very hot day. In addition, they were able to remove the protective rail to complete the job and then return it upon completion when some of the other plumbing companies didn’t want to deal with it at all. I was looking for a better warranty than the 6 yrs. offered by the manufacturer. When the manufacturer and the supplier were not willing to offer one, Freedom Plumber said they would offer the additional 4 years to bring it up to 10 years. This was to be written on the receipt but was left off by accident, I’ll have to look into this again. They were a bit higher in price than some of the other companies estimates but well worth it. My big bathtub now has all the hot water I need to bathe in or to clean it."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Columbia, SC

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
