"Schmitty's Plumbing responded to my Angi's service request almost as soon as I submitted it, and they beat out three other Angi plumbing companies in terms of pricing and transparency. I hired Schmitty's to remove an old double bowl kitchen sink and faucet with a new single bowl sink and upgraded faucet. There was no upselling or attempts to convince us to replace our garbage disposal which two of the other plumbers recommended we do. We saw no reason to replace our disposal which functions well and is not that old. Partners Drake and Gage came out to our home as scheduled, and they got to work immediately working efficiently and thoroughly. We appreciated their no-nonsense, honest, prompt service, and very fair pricing. I chose Schmitty's based on the positive customer reviews, and would hire them again. I told them I would recommend them to all my friends who have plumbing needs!"

"We had a great experience with Knockout. Small plumbing repair job that they were able to fix quickly. Gave us multiple options on how best to address the immediate problem, as well as prospective problems in the future. No complaints and would definitely hire again."

"Very well done! Tennant called to notify us of a leaking garbage disposal unit. Received a phone call when technician (Raman) arrived with a clear diagnosis before work was to be completed. Used an Angie's list special that was honored with no up-charges or additional work added. Drain Pro is now my go-to for all plumbing needs."

"I contacted Seatown Electric about installing a replacement bathroom fan; the existing fan (an inexpensive and loud NuTone) was undersized for the bathroom and leading to condensation. I e-mailed Lisa and Matt at the main office to get their input on a new fan with humidity-sensing capabilities, high airflow, and low sound. They sent me a suggestion for a high-quality Panasonic bathroom fan that fit my needs perfectly, plus an estimate that was very reasonable. On the scheduled day, Jeff and his assistant arrived and got right to work: they spread out some protective gear for my floors, removed the old ceiling fan, enlarged the ceiling cutout to accommodate the new fan, and had the new fan installed in just over an hour. I was particularly impressed at how carefully Jeff removed the old fan - it wasn't as easy as simply pulling the old one out, but he took the time to cleanly remove it from the ceiling without unnecessary cutting or leaving behind any stray mounting hardware. To top it all off, Jeff and his assistant cleaned up all the stray dust and insulation that had fallen from the ceiling. In the end, I had an awesome new ceiling fan with a humidity sensor that was installed in much less time than it ever would have taken me. :-) I'm very happy with Seatown and will be hiring them again."

"I was contacted by Northwest Hydrojetting, LLC immediately after my request for a water heater replacement on Angie's list. They supplied a base quote and said they could complete by next day. The quote was reasonable and after I checked a few other responses, I checked back and they said they could actually get out the same day. They were quick, responsive, polite and very professional. As a recently retired Facilities Superintendent I would recommend this company to my business colleagues as well as private home owners."

"We live in a daylight basement of a 3 story home we share with family members. We had a ceiling leak and didn't know whether to call a plumber or hvac professional. On advice from a friend, I went with a plumber who we found through Home Advisor - Platinum Plumbing. They came the next day, lifted the ceiling tile to determine the location of the water leak. They determined it wasn't a plumbing leak, but an hvac leak. They informed me that the original contractor had never sealed the hvac pipe coming from the stove exhaust fan vent from the floor above. They said that condensation from that vent was the reason for the water leakage. Though it wasn't technically a plumbing problem, they offered to seal the hvac pipe with a sealant preventing future condensation leaks. They charged me $140 which was the hvac fee which was lower than a plumbing fee. I am pleased! They gave me names of 2 local hvac repair companies if we needed. For future plumbing issues, we will not hesitate to call Platinum Plumbing again. We have learned to trust the professionals we have used from Home Advisor. Home Advisor is our "go-to" resource now."

Customers say: Super punctual

"These guys were amazing! We had the plastic water intake valve behind the toilet burst and spray water everywhere at 4am. after cleaning up the mess we called Cahill's at about 6:45am and they arrived by 8:30am to fix the valve, which took them like 15 minutes. I asked them about doing all of the valves in the house (16 total) and they agreed to come back at noon to do all of them. At exactly noon they were back at my house and had all the valves changed out in less than 2 hours. They were friendly, clean, polite, and provided excellent customer service. Jason and Harry were the team that came to my house and I would highly recommend them. And thanks to Russell, the owner, for giving us a great deal on the work his team did. We will be calling on Cahill's for any future plumbing needs."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Kent, WA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
