"Gary and his crew did a great job! Arrived on time and even came on Sunday to finish the job. I got multiple estimates on my roof, his quote was the most competitive and he was the only person who gave me a write up of everything they would do. Gary is an honest guy, and knows roofing. I had a lack of soffit vents and Gary installed custom Owens Corning roof vents. His team studied what needed to be done, and did a great job. The clean up was great, they blew everything and picked up all the nails that come from the install. I would recommend Gary and his crew to anyone, great people, honest, on time. Thanks Gary! Brendan"

"The roofers did an incredible job. There was a lot of rotted boards so the crew chief went out twice to buy more. We decided to remove the 4 skylights in our ceilings. One leaked and really heated the house during the summer, one was in our bedroom (who puts a skylight in a bedroom anyway?). There were two others in our living room and we decided to take those out as well. The roofers took them all out whole. Mary kept us apprised of everything. She is the best!"

"Perfect! I was in need of someone to certify the condition of my Mom’s roof for insurance purposes. I found A1’s information on Angi’s list and as soon as I hit the enter button for a quote I received a phone call from A1. I told them what needed to be done and he arranged for it to be happen the same day within a few hours of my call. I didn’t expect it because of the bad weather but he was true to his word. He was on time and completed the task and answered all questions I had. He was very courteous and professional and I would definitely use them for future needs!"

"Every home owner eventually needs (or will need) a new roof. Expense is one of the driving factors that usually determines the vendor BUT a more economical long range decision should be made based on quality. Quality of product, installation and service are essential components of this decision. This is why we chose to go with Power for our new roof and gutters. EVERY interaction with each employee was customer-centric. They patiently listened to our requirements and concerns and then offered effective solutions during and throughout the entire process. (The warranty was also the best available.) Power is a large company with multiple locations across the country, ours was headquartered in Maryland but the work was completed in Virginia. This geographic distance did not adversely effect the outcome. From the initial salesperson (who took the gutsy risk of letting me visit and talk with two neighborhood customers while he waited outside before signing our contract) through the schedulers, work execution and Quality Control final inspection we were well pleased. The work started on time and was completed on time. Numerous personal phone calls and visits by the Power inspectors provided us with the comforting conclusion that we made the correct choice for a truly professional contractor. (The ONLY minor problem for the ENTIRE process was an oil stain from their air compressor on one of our paving blocks.) With our 50 year labor and product warranty I doubt we will need to redo our roof in our lifetime BUT if we move we would definitely chose Power again! Check the Better Business Bureau reviews and complaints and you will easily see that Power is a responsive and reasonable company to work with. Need a new roof? Power is your answer! Note that our project included house (2050 sq ft) replacement of all substandard 3/4” roof decking with code 7/16” decking (2080 sq ft) and also included reroofing of standalone shed (100 sq ft) minus decking replacement/gutters."

"It went great. They installed my original liner almost 10 years ago and told me at the time to make sure I had it cleaned annually. I didn't do that ! So I finally called them after being telemarketed by another chimney company. This other company came out and said the liner was a mess, I needed a new one, etc. I dug out my old receipt from A-1 and sure enough they even wrote it on the receipt, to get it cleaned each year.
So I called them to come look at it and they agreed that I needed to replace it. Which I did. They were professional and worked very clean.
The price they quoted me was about $2000 less than the telemarketed chimney company quoted. So I went ahead and had them do it. "

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Newark, NJ

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
