"We are really happy with our Owens Corning Duration Shingle roof installation and have received many compliments from our neighbors. Peter is very responsive and communicative. He and his crew went above and beyond to do the job right and they left our property in great shape, cleaning up all the roofing debris. I appreciate that Peter doesn’t try to sell you more products. Instead, he has your best interest in mind, as the client. For example, we were considering replacing our gutters because we wanted to change the color. Peter pointed out the gutters were in good shape and could be painted for the desired color change. His pricing is competitive."

"My overall experience was exceptional. Carlos of Blue Sky initially came to my home and spent as much time as needed in explaining the repair or replacement alternatives with me and was very considerate regarding my specific roof concerns and financial constraints. He was very patient in helping me make the best decision and allowed me some promised flexibility after the work began. The Blue Sky team that performed the work over the course of a week were diligent and showed-up ready to go everyday. The end product was excellent. There was also some incidental damage caused due to a severe rainstorm during the work week that couldn't have been prevented by the Blue Sky team, however, Carlos took the necessary steps to timely restore the slightly damaged area to a condition that was better than before the rainstorm occurred. Very commendable. Overall a professional and dedicated group, which I would strongly recommend from both quality of work and cost perspectives!"

"Casey Swistun is a one of a kind contractor. Initially, we took bids for a new roof on our 110 year old house. Casey's bid was the most expensive. But we never even considered the other two offers after seeing how he worked. Casey was the only one who actually brought a ladder and went up on our roof prior to preparing his estimate. He was at our house for nearly 2 hours, taking pictures, looking at every single part of the roof, and making notes. A few days later, a detailed proposal arrived. The other two roofers we contacted gave us generic estimates without even going up on the roof. Our house had four layers of shingles and numerous areas where water was getting in and causing damage. Prior roofers had done "hack jobs" on our old house, covering up their bad work with roofing tar. There was extensive repair work that was needed once the old layers were removed. Casey anticipated every potential problem and attacked the new problems that were revealed. Casey was trained as an engineer and approaches every problem like one. He spent hours of his time talking to me about every issue, drawing diagrams and explaining every bit of work that had to be done. He was never too busy to talk or get back to me when I had questions. He was at the job site nearly every morning at 7 am sharp to tell me what would be done that day and to talk about the details of the work. Casey had three different crews who worked at our house - the main roofers, the commercial roofers for areas of flat roof, and the siding crew, plus a chimney expert. He coordinated everyone and there was no delay in moving from crew to crew. All of the crews were excellent, especially the siding crews (Mark and Mark) who were true old world professionals - so patient and thorough. Part of our work was to repair wind damage, and we had an insurance claim for that part. Casey took the lead in contacting and communicating with our claims adjuster, sending him pictures and diagrams in an effort to make sure we got as much of the damage paid for as possible. Even after the job was done and Casey had been paid, he took the time to send the insurance company additional pictures and a description of work he had done that he thought should have been covered. I have never had a contractor who took the time to do something like this, for my benefit, not his. At the end of the job, Casey put together a thorough description of all extra work he had to do (which I had approved along the way) and a package of materials with all my warranty information, etc. Again - I have never had a contractor do this before. Casey is truly one of a kind. He handled the job like it was his own house. He was obsessive about every detail, and he worked to solve every problem. I can't imagine, now, how those other roofers would have handled this job. Our old house and garage have now been given a wonderful facelift. It will look like it did 110 years ago once we finish getting it painted! Casey was referred to me by a neighbor who had an equally excellent experience with Swistun, and I am so glad that I was able to work with Casey. If he agrees to take on your project, you can be sure that it will be done right, no matter how difficult or time-consuming it is."

"Although there were 6 inches of snow on the roof this did not stop Holda Construction. They shoveled off the snow and immediately started reroofing the house. They used high quality, high definition Timberline HD shingles with a ridge vent, bringing the roof up to code. The additional vents are they added are dark and beautifully blend in with the roof. Their workmanship is above excellent and I recommend them to anyone needing a new roof."

"We recently had our roof replaced, and I want to wholeheartedly recommend Lake Point Roofing as a company you should consider for any future roofing projects. I first met Derek Wojcik, a partner in the company, when I asked him to come to my home to review a leak that I noticed in my second floor bedroom. After inspecting my roof, he told me that he had found the source of the leak and would fix it on the spot. After repairing the leak, I thanked him and asked him what I owed him. His response was "no charge". He's also made a couple of other minor tweaks with my gutters without charge. Derek quoted me a price to replace my roof in November 2016. When I decided to replace the roof this year, he told me that he would maintain the same price quoted last year. His team arrived at my home at approximately 7:30 and went right to work, tearing off the existing shingles and replacing them. They also lined my built-in gutters with modified Bitumen, and installed steel angle iron on all the gutters to prevent overflow. Upon completion, they meticulously cleaned up to the point that you wouldn't know that any work had been done. In all my dealings with Derek he has proven to be meticulous in detail, extremely hard working, does what he says he's going to do, and manages a crew of top notch roofers. I don't think we'll have need of Lake Point Roofing's services to replace a roof again, but I would certainly use them again."

"I highly recommend Peter and the team at Advanced Roofing and Construction! My roof was catastrophically damaged when a tree was laid across the width of the house in wind shear event, collapsing part of the structure beyond simple repair. Because it’s a mid-century modern house with a roof of unique composition, other roofing companies had never seen or worked with the material and either were not willing to undertake the repair or wanted to change the silhouette to accommodate their preferred materials and methods. This wasn’t the case with Advanced. They were familiar with both the materials and process needed and assured me that it could be fixed. In fact, t required an entire tear-off and they restored the roof better than I could have hoped. Every worker who was at the house was professional and courteous. The efforts made to clean up at the end of each day, even when the job was not yet done, were admirable. And the tradesmen engaged to repair the interior damage were efficient and were true craftsmen. They absolutely gave me my house back."

"The owner John, worked with the insurance estimator and provided me a detailed estimate after discussions with the insurance company, I decided to go ahead with W. Brothers Roofing. They delivered the supplies on time and arrived at 7AM as agreed on. They completed all the roof replacement in one day and cleaned up all the waste materials when finished. They returned two days later to replace all the gutters and the window shielding. The workers were great answering any questions I had and the on-site foreman Rob did a great job keeping me informed as to the flow and status of the work. I am extremely satisfied with the job done."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Palatine, IL

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
