The best thing about getting anything custom made is being able to get exactly what you want. A custom drapery is a great way to ensure not only a perfect match in color, but a perfect match for your needs, as well. Designing your Custom Drapery
The process of designing a custom drapery will vary by the company you deal with. In some instances, a company will have a few choices, styles, and materials to choose from. After you decide what you want, you will be asked to pick a color and send in your measurements. Within a set amount of time, your custom drapery will be at your door.
Other companies will require a little more information. In certain cases, you may have the option of working directly with the person who will be sewing your drapes. This type of one-on-one interaction tends to be a bit more expensive, but you can be sure that your custom drapery is truly customized. Not only will it be one-of-a-kind, but the finished product will be designed around your situation, rather than approximated. Custom Drapery Options
Only the dimensions of the room limit the options for your drapes. The top of the drapery, or header, will have its own distinctive appearance, and possibly its own separate materials. Then you can pick out the color, size, and material for the trim (if there is to be a trim at all).
The biggest decision will of course be the color, fabric, and style of the drapery fabric. From cotton to silk, and from satin to velvet, the choice is up to you. This is where that one-on-one interaction makes the most difference.
A person with experience in the field can help you make a decision that will not only appeal to your taste, but will be well informed on the practical aspects, too. Depending on the conditions in the room, there may be some physical constraints that someone without a lot of experience in the field might not be aware of. Having someone with the expertise of a seasoned professional as a guide could prevent problems later on. Drapery Installation
How the drapes are installed will, once again, depend on the company you deal with. Some places will simply send you a box in the mail with all of the materials you ordered (to your specifications, of course). It will be up to you to install them yourself or to hire a third party to do it.
Other companies will have their own "in house" installation crew. They will come to your home, put everything up, and make sure that everything is working perfectly, and that you are perfectly satisfied with your purchase. If this is the sort of treatment you want, it is important to hire somebody local. While a custom drapery is certainly worth a little extra money, it's a rare person who would be okay with a bill that includes plane fare.
