"this was a Sunday and they provide 24/7 HVAC service. The technician came to my house within approximately an hour and a half. He diagnosed the problem and he had the part on his truck needed to repair it. I called probably seven or eight people to help repair my air conditioning because itâ s the only one I have and I cannot live in heating and humidity. Air Serv was the only one who responded immediately."

"The representatives from On Time Electric were easy to schedule and they were punctual to the appointment. They put the little booties on their shoes as mentioned in other reviews. However, when pricing the job they used some sort of "menu" that had a cost for each line item, and when they priced it out like that it came to over $3500 - that is WITH their maintenance plan discount (which you also have to purchase). I guess that method is fine if you have one thing that you need done, but I had several dedicated circuits that needed to be installed (which priced at just under $600 each), all the way down to smaller items like changing out switches and outlets (priced at $60 each). I ended up using a contractor that worked under an hourly rate, and just gave him my list and let him have at it (which, frankly, is how I've always worked with electricians). Actual cost was 1/5 of what On Time Electric quoted me. I may try On Time if I have an emergency or just need one thing done - the size of their crew makes me think they may be fairly accessible - but I would never use them for any large jobs based on the way they price out their work.

"John and Zack from Bama Air Systems were personable and professional as they replaced our old mini split system with a quality mini split. The four other companies that came out before Bama didn't have a clue on what to do. Thanks Bama Air!"

"I have been using Ethridge for at least 12 years. We have a maintenance contract with them so I see their technicians at least twice a year and it has been the same knowledgeable guys every time. When Daniel said last Friday that my heat pump was going out I knew they were the only ones I would trust to do the job so I did not think about trying to get a cheaper price elsewhere. My confidence in them increased when the same lead installer arrived at my house to do the job who had been at my house probably 5 years ago to install a thermastat. Daniel had forwarned Billie my job was not going to be easy because the old heat pump to be replaced was in the attic. Billie came in with the most positive attitude and he had remembered being at my house. They stayed late to finish the job up. When they left he and his team left everything clean. I could not have ask for a more competent crew to do this job. I highly recommend this company."

"Mr. Coffee is a hero who risks his health daily to help mitigate dangerous radon problems for strangers who call for help. This is a dangerous job with daily high radon exposure and when I asked, he said he is aware of the risks but gets his health scanned multiple times a year. I called Covenant Air back in December after noticing that my Safety Siren Pro radon detector kept reaching alarm. Mr. Coffee came out and assessed that I could probably fix the problem myself by sealing some obvious cracks, especially around some pipes, and recommended the products so that I can do it cheap DIY. He was obviously not pushy to scare people into signing contracts, but actually tried to dissuade me from hiring him right off on installing sub slab depressurization. Although the DYI route he recommended would've been cheaper, I hired him to performs the job. The sealing did bring the radon level down where my detector's alarm didn't go off, but I wanted to lower it as much as possible. He then recommended a passive ventilation route given my reading. The passive ventilation again slashed the radon level in half, but I wanted the radon level down even further, so I ultimately opted to install the fan after weeks of data collection and analysis. He installed the fan so that I could easily turn it off to save energy based on seasonal variations. He is a very personable and methodical person, and prefers to monitor the progress of his work so that his customers don't hastily incur unnecessary cost. You almost never see someone like that in the service industry, and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
