"Saturday night, 11 July, our air conditioner went out. The bedroom ceiling fan we hardly ever use didn't work either. Sunday the temperature would get to 94 degrees (heat index 109 degrees). At 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning I called several companies. AccuTemp was the only one that responded. Though they are in Denham Springs and I am fairly far away in Baker, they came all the way here on Sunday morning, arriving at 10:30 a.m. They fixed the problems, both the air conditioner and ceiling fan. Their price was a bit high, but I have no complaint. At 78 years of age I could not have handled the heat, and neither could our dog, a German Shepherd (a breed from a cold country). We were glad to get the problem fixed so quickly on a Sunday morning."

"From start to finish, their professionalism, expertise, and customer service were top-notch. The technician arrived on time, diagnosed the issue quickly, and explained everything clearly. They didn’t just fix the problem — they went above and beyond to ensure the entire system was running efficiently. Their team is knowledgeable, courteous, and truly cares about their customers. "Went great. Joey with Red Stick Air performed the yearly maintenance on my AC system. Several issues were found, the main one being the air blowing out not being cool.  The problems were found and corrected in no time at all.  Very impressed with this company. I would definitely recommend Red Stick Air. "

FAQs for air conditioning projects in Lakeland, LA

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.

Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.

Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.

Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.

Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
