"Originally I called for a diagnostic of my AC unit, which was doing a terrible job cooling my house. Nikita did the diagnostic-turns out the coolant was leaking, a coil needed to be replaced, and not to mention the thing was from the 1990's. We decided to replace and upgrade it, as well as our furnace, since we froze last winter (turns out it was badly rusted on the inside and emitting CO into the house, which NO ONE found last winter (had it looked at by 4 different people and everyone said there was nothing wrong except that the BTU's were too small for the size of the house). Roy was so awesome, because even though they couldn't schedule us for the next 3 weeks, he made sure we stayed cool-he filled up the coolant and came over to the house a couple times when the AC stopped working. I will be keeping him as our heating and cooling guy!"

"They took out an oil furnace, put in an LP furnace and an air conditioning coil - they did quite a bit of work for the price. They were very responsive and very upfront. I?ve signed up a service agreement with them and they?re very punctual on it. I went with them because cost was a big thing. I would rate them highly and would recommend them to anybody."

Customers say: True professional
"I first contacted Dan during the winter when the heavy snow damaged my cat fence. The fence could not be repaired until spring due to weather conditions. Dan remembered to call months following my initial contact. We had to reschedule several times due to rain, but he was flexible and extremely patient with me! He did an awesome job stabilizing my cat fence and even fixing minor things that he found wrong with the fence. He fixed the gates so that they are level with the fence, and they will close much easier. His price was very fair and reasonable, and he remained professional at all times. I will definitely be calling him again when I need more work done!!! AWESOME SERVICE!

"Varsity Zone hit a home run with their service. From my initial call to discuss my heating issue to having Jesse come out and explain everything, they were outstanding. Jesse diagnosed the issue and was able to provide a few recommendations and solved the heating problem. I highly recommend and will only be using Varsity Zone from now on."

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
