"When my air conditioning stopped working, I first contacted a different HVAC company and the technician made the assessment that the compressor was shot and in need of replacement. They recommended the option of going with a completely new AC unit. I decided to get a second opinion from Shavitz (having seen their sticker on some of the AC units in my building). Cornelius from Shavitz confirmed the initial diagnosis and the estimates that the project manager, Lou, subsequently quoted me were very much in line with what I received from the other company. About $200 more for a comparable AC model, but given what I read about the level of quality Shavitz brings, I decided to go forward with using Shavitz to perform the replacement of my air conditioner. Scheduling the appointment with Chris was a breeze. The day the work was scheduled to be performed, the installation team, Mike D and Mario, arrived exactly on time and quickly got to work. They were professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable about what they were doing. I especially appreciated how thorough they were in the installation and testing of the system. The AC units are on the rooftop of the condo building so there is a long distance between the AC unit and the furnace/AC coil in my condo. Because of this, it took a bit of time to flush the lines, fill with the refrigerant, and test it to make sure it was working as expected. Being a hot day and a Friday, it would have been easy for them to test it to a point where it was “good enough”. Due to the thoroughness of their testing they found an issue in the lines that they were able to fix. While this added time to an already long day, they explained to me what they were doing and the importance of it. All in all, I was very impressed with Mike and Mario’s level of skill and pride they have in their craft. I will absolutely be using Shavitz exclusively going forward for my air conditioning and heating work, and highly recommend them."

Last year, earlier this year and last week my furnace would short cycle and not put out any heat (furnace is only four years old and is a high efficiency unit.) The problem was the condensation in  air intake pipe was freezing and causing a blockage. Previous technicians from Ralph's heating (installer of unit) had come out twice last heating season and defrosted the pipe.

After evaluating the situation Shawn from Porterhouse heating established that the intake pipe was sucking in the moist air from the outtake pipe and was freezing up. We contacted Ralph's who stated that the freezing was due to the extreme weather and not the positioning of the pipes. The position of the installed pipes didn't follow any of the configurations that were in the installation manual. (which would have kept the air from being sucked into the intake pipe)

Shawn's solution was to cut the pipe inside the basement so that it would take in air from the basement instead of outside. Furnace has been working like a champ.

I am very grateful to Shawn, that he was able to solve the problem.. I called on Thursday 1/8 to make an appt. for routine cleaning. Got the appt for the next day, Friday 1/9. The furnace starting acting up right after I called him and by Friday night the heat wouldn't go over 65. He came out and cleaned the furnace, it was working fine but in the evening it started short cycling and wouldn't come all the way on until the temp was down to 59. I sent a text to Shawn at midnight to let him know what was going on. He called back Saturday morning and came out that morning.

I explained to him about the previous problem with the frozen pipe and when he checked it he found it to be frozen. He gave me two options , cut the pipe inside (regular service charge) or redo the pipes (several hundred dollars). After completing the work he asked me to let him know during the day how things were working and if necessary he would come back on Sunday at no charge if I was still having a problem. Not many technicians would be willing to come out on a Sunday.

"Besco is one of the best service providers I have worked with. This past summer, I needed a new air conditioner. Then this winter I needed a new furnace. I hadn't worked with Besco before but I knew that they were highly rated here. There were so many positives about the service I received: 1) Easy scheduling, prompt arrival, friendly people 2) Besco's personnel explained very clearly to me my options, pros and cons of various Trane equipment they sell, so that I could make an educated decision. 3) Follow-up - after installation of the air conditioner and furnace, Besco personnel returned (no charge; standard service) both times to make sure the equipment was working right and to make sure I had no questions. 4) Extras - Besco personnel added a wire to my Nest thermostat that they said would ensure that it functioned perfectly with my new furnace. And when I mentioned that the furnace seemed loud, they made some adjustments to my return air grill (and cleaned it!) to reduce the noise. Overall, I couldn't be any happier with Besco. I was really thrilled with the level of service I received. There's nothing enjoyable about having to get a new air conditioner and new furnace, but absolutely trusted Besco's advice and service, and I appreciated how they went above and beyond my expectations, not merely installing the equipment and leaving."
