"Provided a fair price for a new Rheem air conditioner condenser and air handler. Price was very competitive. Pleased with the work done. Had several productive conversations with the owner regarding the best fit for our needs and budget (1-stage versus 2-stage; SEER2 rating). Pleased with what we wound up deciding on."

"Vinny went way out of his way to go to Montauk to give me an estimate on an air conditioning unit in the downstairs and upstairs. He gave me a great price and kept me informed as to when he was picking up the ductless units and when he was going to install them. He and his son were professional and did a great job."

"Air conditioner died during a heat wave. John came out the same day to assess the problem. Had to take it for repair, and brought it back sooner than promised. Very happy with service."

"I had the equipment replaced, a brand new, super high efficiency, fancy, lovely stuff. It's a central air system, and it's Lennox equipment. It's high efficiency. You can get it for less than that, but you're not gonna get the high efficiency quiet and all that kind of stuff. I had received other quotes which were like more money for the same system. I have been using them since 1986. No complaints. They do their thing, and I can't fault them. I have a service contract with them for this."

"I want to thank Eric, the installation team and the office staff over at Cool Pro Mechanical. They did an amazing job from start to finish. Eric was very knowledgeable and was very helpful in finding the right AC/Heating system for our home. Eric answered all our questions and concerns and the office staff was very prompt in getting quotes and installation set up. The work was done professionally, on time and exactly when discussed. The value for the unit, installation and customer service is exceptional. I would highly recommend this company."

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
