"I used Luigi Cotumaccio Masonry Contracting to do concrete and stone construction on the front and sidewalk of my home. He is professional and honest and is a man of his words with a keen eye for perfection and quality work. He made suggestions to our original plans that came out better than we expected. In the future will not hesitate to use his service again and suggest him to others. He has a great team."

"

Due to the roots of a large tree in front of my property that cracked the sidewalk and lifted the concrete slab of my driveway 5 inches off the ground, I took this opportunity to have the driveway dug up and replace the sewer pipes underneath it.  Once that project was completed, I called Joe at JB Contractors for an estimate on replacing the concrete for the sidewalk, driveway and the garage floor.  A couple of weeks later on a Monday morning, Tony and his crew arrived at 7:00 am as promised and immediately started tearing up the old concrete and by early afternoon they were pouring in new concrete.  I also showed them some loose bricks that needed patching up and they did a nice job repairing them.  By 7:30 pm all the concrete had been poured and smoothed out.  Tony and his crew returned the next day to cut the driveway, caulk the sidewalk and powerwash the new concrete.   Joe checked up with me often to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction.  I have to say they did a terrific job.  Everyone was courteous and professional.  I would definitely hire them again for future work.

"The patio was originally laid down in June.  There were drippings from when the pavers were cut and walked across the patio.  We were told they would come off but they didn't.  Since they did not come off Carl made sure that the patio was ripped up and laid back down with new stones at no cost to us.  He also honored the request to not use the bobcat the second time so that we would not have to re-seed the yard again."

"Very happy with the concrete they put down. If you can avoid it, I recommend not doing concrete in the fall if you have leaves blowing all over. Makes the job almost impossible to do perfectly."

"Had Zavza Seal replace a concrete drive and walkway. They did it quickly and professionally, meeting the town planning board deadline. The realtor managing my property was very satisfied with the finished product and said they were easy to work with in dealing with the tenants."

Customers say: Quality work

"Pete was very professional. He re pointed all the mortar on my slate walkway. He completed the job, on time and on estimate. He was very upfront about the mess it would create and warned me ahead of time to move cars etc. When the workers were done, they cleaned up. The work was done approx 6 months ago and shows no signs of poor workmanship."

FAQs for concrete work projects in Port Washington, NY

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.

Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.

Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.

An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
