"The crew did a great job. They were prompt and efficient. The patio looks just like what we wanted and they were able to get the job done within our timeframe. Great communication with the company as we worked to pick out style and color of the concrete. Over all very professional. We recommend!"

Customers say: True professional

"Cocona Concrete was excellent. I needed to replace the entire driveway, apron and sidewalk-- and wanted to do it quickly before the winter cold arrives. Cocona did an excellent job. Communication was excellent, they were extremely prompt -- on-time for every appointment, and did great work. They also came up with good solutions for one problematic area, which none of the other vendors that i receive quotes from provided. Pricing was very fair and reasonable, and no surprises. Overall, they were great and I would use them again anytime!!"

"Very pleased with work Gus did. He was involved with much of the work himself. Quick demolition, nice job on new patio. Came out several times to prepare concrete for sealing. Used 2 coats to seal slab. He will also be installing a patio cover for me in the next month."

"Gil came out and listened to the details of my hot tub project. He came up with some good ideas like footers reinforced with rebar for the planned pergola posts, doing a 6” pour with wire. A 4000 psi concrete being used because of the pergola post anchoring requirements and the estimated weight of the filled hot tub at around 4,500 lbs. The day of the job a cement truck and a concrete pumping truck came and his crew was able to finish in a few hours. He came back in the evening and covered the concrete with thick blankets because the temperature was dipping below freezing that night. The job turned out professional and looks fantastic. He came out the next day to inspect and collect the blankets. His crew works clean, at all times wore masks, and friendly. I would hire again and highly recommend Gil and his company."

"Fantastic job installing and finishing two skylights in our living room. The thought, design, and implementation were all outstanding. Couldn't be happier with the results and our choice of Victor and his team."

FAQs for concrete work projects in Santa Fe, NM

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.

Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.

Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.

An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
