"We did the stone pave, about 3200 square foot, a big job. John, the owner of JP Paving, give us a good deal on price and did a very good job. Our drive base is not so good before and they dig deep to fix the base, regardless spend extra material and time. Very nice contract and highly recommended."

"The patio came out great. My wife and I are very pleased with the results. The design, texture and coloring look fantastic. Fernando and his team showed up on time and knocked out an 800 Sq ft stamped concrete patio in 7 hours. Very professional! I highly reccommend Far From Average for your concrete work."

"Had a leak in a 70 yr. old chimney w/three flues. Interviewed several HomeAdvisor contractors and with his experience and approach chose Build, USA who proposed a plan of action to address the leak and serious problem of fireplace smoke backing into our family room. To upgrade the chimney - old, damaged bricks were replaced w/o disturbing surrounding mortar. Then discovered the flues were too short: so flues, brick chimney & damper pull chains were lengthened and entire concrete crown replaced. The right size flue caps replaced. Copper flashing around chimney base replaced to extend over surrounding roof and sealed. Skylight flashing updated & secured. Chimney was hard brushed clean, waterproofed and guaranteed 25 years. Their price was more than fair considering the scope of work. Andy knows his stuff, does the job right & cares! Would definitely recommend and hire again. My thanks, Virginia Gould"

"This was a big project for my wife and I. Â We were very concerned about the overall cost and the structural integrity of the house foundation as the basement was being excavated. Â Jerome and Damon did an outstanding job for us and made sure we were comfortable with the entire process. Â Damon was especially attentive -- he is thoughtful, intelligent, resourceful and provided excellent service and advice. Â The few problems that came up were dealt with quickly and I am extremely happy with the result - a clean, dry work space with a nice flat floor. Â
95% of the job was completed in 5 days. Â I am still amazed by this given that all the excavated material and the new concrete was handled in 5 gallon buckets exclusively. Â The other amazing thing was how much the crew actually enjoyed the work; I wish I had as much fun on the job as the Select Basement crew - that tells me that Jerome treats his people the right way.Â
Anyway, thanks guys for a terrific job.

"Teki was great to work with. He replaced a concrete front porch for my clients who are in the process of selling their home. He did the job within the timeframe he set out for us. The results were excellent. I will recommend him to my future real estate clients and to my realtor associates."

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.
Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.
Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.
An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
