"My garage door developed a bended top due to which it would not close. Mammoth Door came in and the repair guy was honest to let me know that garage door repair was an option instead of getting a new door and spending $2500. He did a great job and charged me pretty reasonable. I 100% recommend this company. I will call them again whenever i decide to install new garage doors."

Customers say: Quick response

"I have a very old Stanley garage door and original parts are no longer available. Jake called me directly and quickly and offered an alternative part that was much better than the original part. He arrived on time the next day and completed the installation in a very professional manner. His price was very competitive and he even offered some additional tips for maintenance that I could do myself. I would highly recommend him for garage door service."

"My garage door was opening and closing on its own. Michelin garage door contacted me immediately upon putting in my work request (home warranty). He offered to come out the next day. I was notified when the tech was on his way. The tech assessed the problem, fixed the issue, let me know he was finished....all in a timely manner. The gentleman was kind, knowledgeable, and quick. I came home and my son said the garage door had been fine. I used the indoor garage door opener and it started again. I called the company back, he was out the next day and exchanged my opener!! Everything is working great!! Highly recommended!!"

FAQs for garage and garage door service projects in Farmington, MI

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.

Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.

A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.

Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.

A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.

Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.

If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
